I'd like to use Lysander in a competitive list. Is this possible? What should the army build be to support him?

Lysander is still a very amazing character.
I think 5 TH/SS in a Crusader in a standard IF list should be good enough to accommodate him.

I like it. At 1500 points, what should the other half of my army look like?

Devastator squad with 4x lascannons + sarge + a few extra marines behind and aegis with an icarus lascannon or quad gun could be good too? With their tank hunters chapter tactics they could put some serious hurting on lots of vehicles. The quad/icarus would basically be able to make one of the extra marines also have a long range gun, so they are even more useful besides being meat shields for the big guns
A TFC is also probably a good idea?
Maybe some Razorbacks / Rhinos with tactical squads or some drop pods with tactical squads could be good too. Maybe sternguard if you really want to be fancy, but that cuts down on some troops and you most likely have plenty of killing potential in those devs and that TH/ SS + Lysander monster squad haha.

I have had some good luck with running lysander with Standard Terminators in a LR Crusader, 30 Tac Marines, 2 units of missile Devastators and a TFC. My list is 1750, but I am sure you can cut a few point off to take it down to 1500.
You really need the Land Raider though in order to get Lysander into combat with the enemy Warlord to get those extra points.

Great feedback, thank you. I know ghis isn't the army list forum but... Here's the two rough concepts I've come up with, taking your feedback into account. Note that I'd like to try Whirlwinds first before I switch to TFCs. Please comment and help me refine my concept. Both options are for 1500.
Option 1:
Lysander/Hammernators/Redeemer
4 Lasbacks with Flamer Combat Squads
3 Whirlwinds (or 2 Thunderfires)
Option 2:
Lysander/Shootynators
3 Full Rhino Tac Squads with Teleport Homers
Las Devs in a las ADL
2 Whirlwinds (or 1 Thunderfire)

I would replace the redeemers with crusaders. They benefit from the Imperial Fist rule of bolter drill (don't they?) and they are probably better than redeemers against most targets. Those flamers are really hard to use it seems.

No they don't, as the hurricane bolters are already twin-linked. And the bolter drill doesn't affect vehicles anyway.

Where in the codex does it say Bolter Drill does not affect vehicles?

Bolter drill is part of the chapter tactic. Only a model that has the chapter tactic USR can use that chapter-specific rule (so none of the vehicles). The only exception is the IH chapter tactic that specifically includes all vehicles (for IWND).

Ah, good point. I don't have a codex but I have taken a look at it. Wasn't sure if it applied or not. Well, regardless, I would prefer a crusader over a redeemer. Those bolters are going to be able to do a lot more damage as you drive up it seems. Of course, both are cool and you can totally do what you want. But there's usually a reason LRCs seem more popular.
