Didn't see a recent thread so here is this:
Giant River Troll Hag

Forge World wrote:River Trolls inhabit the dark fens and marshes of the Old World, and have a reputation of being particularly foul and smelly, none more so than the Giant River Troll Hags. With lank hair, fetid breath and slime coated scaly skin, they are as revolting as they are formidable. Their tough hides are able to heal wounds at an incredible rate and their long loping limbs possess fearsome strength. Attracted by the rotting carrion left in the aftermath of a battle, Giant River Troll Hags and their brethren can be found accompanying armies of greenskins, who are often keen to exploit their brute force whenever they go to war.

Designed by Trish Carden, the Giant River Troll Hag is a multi-part resin model. This model is available to pre-order now and will be despatched from 30th September.

I think that's a well executed model, but I can't see much use for it. Would have made a funny "Throgg" stand-in when I had my river troll themed army

I personally like it quite a lot and will probably buy it at some point to go with my River Trolls, it's a very nicely sculpted model even if the random saggy breasts are a bit WTF

Why do the nicest models get the worst paint jobs? Its the same for FW stuff too. Baffles me somewhat.

I quite like it. There's even a rock lobster on the base.

ehhhhhh, I like the model... not sure why the boobs... But I guess the other river trolls also don't wear clothes as they seem to have 'hair down there' not loincloths.

So naked river tolls it is!

Model looks awesome, what size base is it on? I'm hoping a 40x80 so it can still attempt to rank up with other trolls.

Also, where is the NSFW? I mean those saggie old boobs and nipples demand the tag surely?

Regards,
Howie.

Oh, is that a giant base (100mm x 50mm)? If so, my sense of scale was all off... it's really big! Like several times the size of the river trolls.

That model is lovely. I'm not a huge fan of the base or the walking stick, but both of those would be easily replaced.

I also find it a bit amusing that we have discussions about how women are supposed to look regarding witch elves and daemonettes, and then are uncomfortable when a sagging, arguably more realistic (at least with regards to the proportions of their assets, etc.), portrayal of a woman comes along. That's gamers for you I guess!

Technically, a giant base is 75mmx50mm, but yes, I'd say that it looks to be on a 100mmx50mm (chariot base). Would still serve the purpose of a giant. If it wasn't for... those... erm... yeah.

That's quite a nice model, particularly as it's sculpted by Trish - who often turns out things that are less good.

I think all of her FW sculpts have been really good (Merwyrm and Carmine Dragon), its just the GW stuff that lets her down. I wonder how much of that is a you most do such and such like this and it must be able to build this as well.

A lot of it is just her signature style on monsters, I think. Not something that different sculptors working on the same critters in their previous and post-iterations have suffered from, nor monsters sculpted by others in the same time periods - so I'm doubtful that it's simply art direction. It's been an issue (for me anyway) as far back as the 90's. Big chunky goofy-looking, almost-random scales, then nothing, as well as bad, cartoony monster faces. etc. example:
http://www.solegends.com/citcat1997/1997p322-02.htm
http://www.solegends.com/citcat1997/1997p317-02.htm
http://www.solegends.com/citcat1997/1997p289-02.htm

With that sort of thing in consideration, this troll is great work from her. I'll have to check the other FW ones you mention and see if they suffer from that style I dislike so much.

Well, seems GW Games Day deserves no thread of its own. This is good news!

marv335 over at Warseer wrote:There was a Forgeworld seminar, and they touched on Warhammer Forge, but there were only two slides.
The seminar was mainly about 40k and 30k.

As I recall it was a picture of the river troll hag, and a headshot of the saurian.
That was about it to be honest.

Mattcrowther00 over at Warseer wrote:Spoke to Alan Bligh and he said the next Warhammer Forge book will be no sooner that two years away... Shame! The guy who does the realm of battle tiles said he would like to do a ruined fort/ watch tower with a spiral ramp wide enough to hold a unit on it, but again Horus Heresy is the priority at the moment!

Captain Marius over at Warseer wrote:The K'daai Destroyer is massive, and very different from anything I've seem from Forgeworld before - it's covered in details and a bit like a cross between a juggernaught and a necrosphinx. The Troll Hag is huge as well, bigger than Throgg! "He's not the Troll King, he's a very naughty boy" springs to mind. The Dread Saurian is on the scale of the FW Greater Daemons - he needs a few more details but then he'll be a great centrepiece for Lizardmen when he's done.

Squiiiiig over at Warseer wrote:When asked about Skull pass, the book that FW swore would be released by now at GD last year, they said they have no idea when it would be released. In fact the guys I spoke to went from very helpful and enthusiastic, to almost visibly hoping I would drop the subject. WHF looks dead to me, or at least long term hibernating

I am absolutely fething gutted at the state of Warhammer Forge, so many fantastic models.

Instead we're just going to be getting every possible variant of bloody Space Marines instead.

I'd do anything for some Fantasy Forge, heck even some Xenos! :(

(they are very nice space marines, all the same)
