We all know he can take most ICs lunch money, but what do you run him with?
Deep strike with oblits or termies? Rhino with plague marines? A blob of 35 cultists?

Newer player, but have been stomped enough times to know what works and what doesn't as far as CSM go

Just an FYI, Abaddon can't get in a Rhino because Rhinos can't carry Bulky (and so on) models.

Personally, I've run him up the field in a blob of Cultists. Putting him in a Termicide squad is a dangerous use of a 250+ point character that will always be your Warlord, so I wouldn't go that route. Deep-striking a Terminator unit in an uncontested zone sounds alright, but you really need to watch out for Riptides and the like as even with Eternal Warrior, he has a 4+ invulnerable save if you want him to tank wounds, not a 3+. You can put him in a Land Raider along with Terminators or another melee unit to taste, but obviously this is an expensive death star. Of course, you probably want Abaddon where he can buff his friends with the Preferred Enemy bubble, at least if you are playing against Loyalist Marines anyway.

The powergamery thing to do right now is run him with 5 spawn and slingshot him.

Basically you run the first spawn forward and the rest behind it with abby at the back. When the first spawn charges in combat and makes it abby gets to go too.

I roll a d6 in the movement phase
Now thats the bad joke out of the way, I've been sticking him with 10 terminators. Its been really fun - preferred enemy is great.
I've not tried a landraider.
I've got a storm eagle. It will be the worlds biggest bullet magnet when its finished and loaded up. I'm going to flank it with a pair of heldrakes, cos that'll look cool.
I'm going to buy a spartan.
FW make much better units for carrying terminators...

Its because ordinance is still a word.
However, firing ordinance at someone isn't nearly as threatening as firing ordnance at someone.
Ordinance is a local law, or bill, or other form of legislation.
Ordnance is high caliber explosives.
No 'I' in ordnance.
Don't drown the enemy in legislation, drown them in explosives.

I forgot to mention putting him with 8 chosen in a land raider isnt a bad idea for a super scoring unit.

I would run abby either in a land raider or with spawn. Otherwise hes nvr getting into combat

i dont understand how this would workk. could you explain more. how would abby get to join on a charge if not in range and only with a 3" pile in

When in doubt do what seems hardest

He doesnt technically, but the fact he is in the group, means he is locked in combat and will slowly move up towards the combat without the fear of being shot at...

Basically meaning he will eventually get into combat, and the spawn will take the majority of wounds FOR him until he get into coherency.

perhaps he cant, which is all the better. The spawn do little damage first turn, but who cares. Next turn abby rolls up and slaughters the squad. Now you are free to charge something else in your next turn without having gotten shot.

You take primary CSM, take Huron black heart, making him your warlord. Take 8 terminators with mark of Tzeentch. Ally Black Legion and take Abaddon as HQ.

Take a Bastion and place it center of the board 23 15/16 from your table edge. Make your own and put like 20 doors on it in all directions.

with Horuns Warlord Trait, you infiltrate Abaddon and 8 terminators into the bastion. Turn 1, walk out 6" into your opponents deployment zone. Spread out.. Soak one turn of shooting.... Then rape face. It would be nice if you took Ahriman instead of Horun, and get the biomancy spell that gives FNP.

Anyway good luck.

I run him stock out of the box, no upgrades

This may sound like heresy, but is it possible to deepstrike him with nurgle mutilators?
They should soak up all the wounds shot at Abaddon, if any are left they will get 4 attacks on the charge.
And those who run with cultists, what mark if any do you use?

Mutilators are pretty much a waste, even when with Abaddon.

Personally, I run him with 15 Chaos Marines with CCWs, 2x Meltaguns, and Champion with Lightning Claw and Gift of Mutation. While I can't take them in a transport, 15 of them means that they take few casualties through foot-sloggins. I have an allied Primaris Psyker whom I usually try to roll for Invisibility to give a 2+ Cover save when combined with an Infantry Squad/Cultists for mobile cover. In general, this tactic has failed to go wrong so far, just last night Abaddon wiped out 7 Deathwing Termies threatening my flank in a single round of combat.

How do I run Abaddon? I knock his Ld down via Deahtleaper and then pepper him with Terrify.

Greebo had spent an irritating two minutes in that box. Technically, a cat locked in a box may be alive or it may be dead. You never know until you look. In fact, the mere act of opening the box will determine the state of the cat, although in this case there were three determinate states the cat could be in: these being Alive, Dead, and Bloody Furious.

can S&P run? Otherwise your Abby+mutes DS in, pie plate on top. Abby left standing alone and then shot with massed firepower.

Cultists marks are horrendously overpriced like a lot of the codex. Naked is best.
