I was thinking about buying some of the GW movement trays, but i'm not sure if it will be worth it.

Right now i'm looking at fielding 3 full squads of 35 plague zombies, and trying to find a way to move them without spending forever doing it...

Plus, my next army is likely to be orcs, so it might be good for them if I made movement trays...

Any have any advice?

Practice.

Movement trays, either GW or make your own.

Practice is the right answer. Players of Ork Boy lists have been doing it for years.

Also, get one of these!

Seriously, go home and practice moving them across the table until it feels perfect.

A player at my local store who plays green tide orks has a novel way of moving his tons-o-orks around which might help with zombies
Take each model and put a magnet under it.
then have thin metal "movement trays" under them of various sizes

they can still be moved around fluidly for terrain or other units in their number or moved enmass.
I didn't get to study the actual effectiveness of the system but in the apoc match he was in it seemed to work well as his green tide orks could move up without him having to move each and every guy individually.

You could put the units on pieces of paper.

What I do is:

1) Measure the 6", put one model there.
2) Use both hands to move the other models into coherency (usually by bunching them up) as quickly as possible.

3) Hope that it took less than 60 seconds to do it.

You move 4 at a time, turn your hand palm facing up and put your middle finger and ring finger together, then use your index finger and pinky as clamps to pick up a model 2 in each hand. the space between the two when dropped is 1 inch coherency if you drop at the same time but if you get better you can drop one before and then the other in one sweeping motion. It takes practice and you will be actually slower at first using this technique but it is extremely faster once you get it down.

Unfortunately, it doesn't work well if your models have extreme conversions on them because it makes the grabbing surface so non-uniform but if your using plague zombies I'm assuming you didn't go too crazy as there's a million of them.

Been playing ORKs since the 90s just practice at it trays will bunch the boys up way to much so that blasts will just doom you. Not to mention they are useless if you have to get through a funnel. Just set your tape measure to 6in's and move each one as fast as you can. I get through my games very quickly and I love the green tide, running 3 to 4 mobs of 30 boys plus Grots and every thing else. If you move one model then the rest as you please you will often move several to far and end up upsetting other players.

Waaagghhhh!!!!!!!!

Practice. Otherwise, if you find moving 105 minis efficiently too much of a chore, fhen don't field them.

Practice, practice, and more practice.

Movement trays are really more hassle than its worth. Sure, they can help sometimes, but once you get into any sort of terrain they become a hindrance.

Get your dude out on a table and start moving them. Practice moving them around terrain.

Plan your moves ahead of time. A couple turns in advance. That way you can concentrate on moving and not thinking about where to move.

Isn't the whole goal of playing zombis and tyfus being able to limit the number of turns you can play , without being called on for stalling . a 35 zombi unit that moves 6" and keepts a 2" spread takes what 4-5 min to move . You take 6 of those and game ends turn 2. And I don't think there are many armies that can kill of 6 units of zombis with helldrake support in 2 turns , even fewer can do that when they go second and have only 1 turn to play.

If you don't like trays, then measure the first few zombies, put the tape measurer down then move the rest behind the first row with both hands. I hate watching players move and measure every single model even though they are just shifting behind the initial row.

Movement trays will only help your opponent when they drop templates and blasts on your zombies.

Welcome to infantry hordes, enjoy your stay!

There are some neat movement trays and the like out there, but I've never really seen the need to get them. This is coming from someone who has three different infantry horde armies.

Actually there's some custom made ones that fully separate them by each full 2 inches, I think it was a skirmisher movement tray or something custom made but someone used it to wonderful effect for a full ork mob back in 5th.

Yeah if you magnetize the bases and use steel trays, you can set the units to whatever spacing you want with no worries of the minis moving around.

A guy i use to play againts, he used mobs of ig soldiers, he has the same problem to move his 30 men squads, so he find the solution, use the movement trays of the lord of the rings game, they are rectangle, but have the circle spaces to put 8 models, so, it was of great look , ranks after ranks of impreal guards forming a well lined formation

Aside from the fact that IG units are usually 10 men each, this can work well. Rather than blocking together 20+ models, these allow for some spreading out, while keeping the models together.
