Hi everyone

I've been thinking about getting some Forgeworld parts recently, but have been disheartened when seeing the sheer number of complaints online about warped poor quality resin pieces being received from forgeworld.

I also noticed a surprisingly numerous amount of people claiming that the infamous Chinese forgeworld recasters actually deliver a better quality product, with the same level of detail but less warping and air bubbles.

What are your thoughts on this fellow forum goers? Do Chinese recasters genuinely deliver an equal/better product?

Anyone who has a side by side comparison of a legitimate versus a fake model would. be greatly appreciated.

I just got some Death Shroud Termies from FW and they are beautifully done. One of the scythes was a little over-curved, but some hot water fixed that right up.

So would you be of the opinion that Forgeworld's products are superior then?

And yes, they do look stunning, have fun with them!

Also, Forgeworld's customer service will take care of any problems you have. Let them know (you might need to send pictures) and you can get a replacement mailed out to you. If you get a miscast or something from a Chinese seller, good luck getting a replacement.

that's certainly a fair point, although as much as 50% cheaper chinese recasters are a much riskier investment

Krieg! What a hole...

If memory serves recasts quality is higher, but FW offers excellent customer service, so whatever flaws you models have can be replaced.

From there its your decision, personally I stick with FW for their least popular models, as they're not recasted by a lot of people.

You'd think that, but Based Chinaman was perfectly happy to mail me a missing Contemptor shoulder.

The morality of recasting can be debated, but IMHO Chinaman delivers a better product at a lower price with equally good customer support.

Maybe I did, only had to call FW once regarding flaws on my orders.

Can it though? When it's not for personal use, profiting off someone else's stuff with the sole intent of undercutting their business and making money in ways that are illegal in most of the world seems pretty immoral to me.

In my experience the quality is often on the same level, but it can also be worse.
On the other hand you are looking at a discount of at least 50%, so that's really worth it.
But it's sad that I have to admit that my last bought recast was better than the last Finecast or FW-cast.

i would agree that it's a moral grey area, but as a consumer I'm not going to pay more for a potentially inferior product just to protect FW's intellectual copyright.

Who's this based chinaman character?

There's always the price vs customer service to think about. Like ordering PC components from some company that offers lower prices... I never do it these days without knowing where they're based and what sort of return/replacement policy they have.

Then don't buy anything at all. You aren't entitled to have FW models, if you don't want to buy them legally then find something else to spend your money on.

There is no such thing as a hobby without politics. "Leave politics at the door" is itself a political statement, an endorsement of the status quo and an attempt to silence dissenting voices.
