so my mom recently got into 40k and is reading the http://wh40k.lexicanum.com/wiki/Shira_Calpurnia_(Novel_Series) and we watched the new dredd movie with karl urban today (different univeres, i know, but i dont think she would have seen it if it wasnt similar.) she liked it by the way. so i was thinking it would be awesome if other imperial organizations had armies playable in 40k, for example Adeptus Arbites and Adeptus Mechanicus. imagine running an army of judges

Well, Arbites are just Judge Dredd with a slightly different name to tell you the truth. They were usable in proper games of 40k back in 2nd edition. I've thought of multiple counts-as ideas for them, but few that worked exactly as I'd like.

I think Adeptus Arbites would be pretty fun as a part of Sister's of Battle. Adeptus Mechanicus wouldn't be an army they're Techpriests and manufacturers.

Moddel them to resembel Arbites, use IG rules problem solved? Outside of that I do not know of any home brewn rules that may work. But as Brother SRM said, get a hold of a 2ed edition ruleset and you are good to go

There was an option in Codex: Witch Hunters that allowed you to modify Inquisitorial Storm Trooper Squads to be used as Arbites.

I think. It's been a while since I read that codex.

Edit: Indeed there was:

3rd edition Codex: Witch Hunters, page 34, Inquisitorial Storm Troopers

Designer's Note: The Ordo Hereticus often call upon the Adeptus Arbites to aid them in their work, using them to round up known criminals and screen them for signs of deeper corruption. Hence, Inquisitorial Storm Trooper Squads may be used to represent squads of the Adeptus Arbites, by replacing each trooper's hellgun and targeter with a shotgun at no extra cost. All other options remain unchanged.

You could use Imperial Guard Veterans with Carapace Armor and Shotguns. : D

Go read up on the Mechanicus, more specifically the Skitarii legions. Trust me, they have enough stuff for GW to make a codex for them.

Pretre: OOOOHHHHH snap. That's like driving away from hitting a pedestrian.
Pacific:First person to Photoshop a GW store into the streets of Kabul wins the thread.
Selym: "Be true to thyself, play Chaos" - Jesus, Daemon Prince of Cegorach.
