I just finished these up a few days ago.
The fade effect was done with black priming in blue areas, white in green. Thinned paint and glaze was used to pull it together. I am going to try the same technique on some Black Legion soon.
Dread body is Forge world with converted Blood Angels Furioso arms.
Marine legs and shoulder pads from Anvil Industries.
Bases are tree bark and do need some touch up judging by the pics.
Open to comments, suggestions, questions.
Thanks!

Very nice, a bit of heraldy/iconography would be a nice finishing touch. I can't imagine those bases help much when it comes to TLOS, adding about 1 1/2" to the model's height by the look of it.

I left any extra chapter markings off as it kind of matched the covert nature of the chapter. Im also not good at free-hand do do any insignia on their shoulder pads.
I don't play the game at all so all that matters is my line of sight to them.

Looks great. I think those backpacks are forgeworld? I see plenty of dragon heads here and there after i looked for a minute. I don't airbrush but it looks like it would be easy to duplicate the paintjob for an entire army?

The backpacks are just regular SM packs that I cut the vents off of and glued some gargoyle rhino heads on that come with either the Chaos Rhino or Land Raider. I had to shave just a bit off to get a close fit.
I used an airbrush on the dread but the squad was done with a brush and does not take long or require a great deal of accuracy. Its black primer in the blue areas, white in the green. GW Mordian blue over the black primer and some transparent green paint over the white. Thraka green wash and Guillman blue glaze over everything to smooth it all together. A gloss coat of varnish, black oil wash, matte varnish to finish it off.

Yup looks great. My only advice would be to add a little something to the bolters. They look a little to plain, maybe a little bit of copper or brass on the top or sides to break up the solid metal. Very cool stuff please post more as you have time.

"Brother Tarvelle, change those shoulder pads at once! As long as they don't see that hydra, they won't know it's us!"
Tarvelle: But my lord, what about the dreadnaught?
"We're not with him!"

Great work, Very smooth and pleasing to the eye. A+
I also agree with the bolter suggestion, maybe make the casing black? to give them more character.

Its not about the type of weapon, its about how you use it.

lovely blue/green blending especially for such a simple method!
the dragon heads on the backpacks looks excellent as well, gives a nice flavour to the unit.
I quite like the dark/dull bolters, makes the armour stand out that much more. I do feel that a hint of gold or brass somewhere might add a bit more interest that isn't the armour.
