What do you guys think is a better leader, Khan on Moondraken or A biker Captain with a relic blade and arti-armor?

I'm stuck on this matter, as I know what Khan brings to the table, but i'm finding that scout is putting me into a lot of trouble I could avoid (possibly becuase i'm not used to it yet.

I dig scouting. It lets me 'redeploy' after my opponent, which can really throw a wrench in their plans.

With Moondrakkan, Khan is 25p more expensive than a captain with a bike and power weapon. To choose between them, you should balance between these options:

- Scout USR to bikes and dedicated transports, Furious Charge and +d3 HoW for himself

- access to chapter relics and other wargear

IMO, I believe Khan is a better choice for WS.

Scouting practically your whole army seems too good to pass up for me. You could always try both? A White Scars death star could be cool.

Just because you have scout doesn't mean you should roll 12" strait at the enemy.
Deploying in the open, and shifting 12" left/right can really put your opponent out of position.

I would never take the captain over Khan. Scout is just too good.

Now a chapter master on a bike with the eternal warrior shield can be an awesome tanking character for a WS deathstar or a DA-RW banner command squad (the +1 jink lets them not get focus fired out). I still prefer khan in almost any list though.

If I'm running a detachment of WS, and I don't go full beatstick (EW Shield, Burning Blade, Art Armor, Bike), I probably just go Khan and call it a day.

Scout is an awesome rule. The tactical benefits are huge. The ability to choose between either moving around after deployment or outflanking is great. It allows you to either perform a fairly effective alpha strike turn one, zooming up and unloading special weapons to soften your enemies, or you can stay in reserves, and outflank on en masse on a later turn (assuming reserve rolls don't screw you, and condemn you to piecemeal reserves) and hit from the flank with a ton of force.

It allows you flexibility to plan AFTER you know who your opponent is, and what your opponent is bringing, which is HUGE for TAC lists. TAC lists need to figure out ways to deal with everything that can be put on the tabletop, but it gets very difficult when you can only deploy in certain fashions and one day you could be facing a gunline and the next facing a trukk/ork boy rush. Being able to react and alter your strategies like scout/outflank provides is a big deal.

I'm running a Captain with Storm Shield, THammer, Art Armor, and The Primarch's Wrath. It is very hard to drop this magetank just to get scout.

To be fair, that's to just get scout "On Your Whole Army".

As I said in a similar thread, never underestimate army-wide scouting. Properly done it can win you the game before it even begins.

I can tell you from personal experience that a beefed up chapter master with hit and run is hilarious.

In one turn I bounced 13" out of an assault, moved 12" on a bike, then assaulted another 5" for a total of a 30" shift to another vulnerable target. My chapter master just ate up his back field support units.

I am kind of considering a beefed up EW, 3++, 2+, TH chapter master to go into a RW command squad with a banner. The Hit and Run banner would be hilarious but the FnP banner version would be crazy as well.
