On an Express Elevator to Hell!!

Hey guys,

Just thought I would share some of the X-Wing stuff I have been working on. Planning on using my ships in some games at a club, and faced with the prospect of them getting mixed up (or, more likely, thieving pikeys walking away from the game with an extra ship! ) I thought I would add some small painted details to them. Thought I would have a go at some light-hearted background for them at the same time! Star Wars fans, please feel free to pick this apart.

Just added a bit of brown and tan to the standard colours, although think they've ended up looking something like a kind of 70's Chevrolet (the ones with stripes down the side!)

Asked a while ago on this section of the forum about the different X-Wing squadrons in the rebel fleet, about the different names, and have settled on..

Brown Squadron

"Never mind bullseye a 2m wamprat, these pilots couldn't hit the side of a Corellian Corvette! Brown Squadron fly on the back end of the galaxy, taking whatever work they can in their retro-grade X-wings. Usually they can put together 2 ships out of the bits they have - they've fought for the Rebellion on occasion, the huts and whatever other shadowy figures that put the most credits in their hands. They've made an art form of escaping when the going gets tough, and usually by the time an Empire Capital ships have arrived, Brown Squadron will be long gone."

The Flying Rancor

Just added some tan colour to this one, to create a ship that would hopefully immediately stand out as not being the Millenium Falcon!

"The ship that can make the Kessel run in 80-100 Parsecs (no guarantee of arrival, full payment in advance).. It's a credit to the designers of the YT-1300 that the ship is not a radioactive pile of space debris. Pushed way beyond its service life, this early model ship's Trandoshan captain has little regard for much beyond the wealth his dubious trades and smuggling activities bring in. Most of the crew don't know how such a useless individual could own the clothes on his back, let alone such a large ship, and are hoping to jump ship before the engines fail as local law enforcement arrive.. "

Haven't worked out what points/special abilities I will pick for a force yet, other than I'll be using the standard 'smuggler' (cheap) option for the YT-1300.

Any C&C very welcome, and would be great to see pics/background for other people's ships if they have made their own additions.

I love seeing peoples painted ships. I keep thinking about doing mine, but I just worry about messing it up.

Brilliant job, and I love the background. Although all I can keep thinking is "brown wing"... Tehehehehehe... Brown wings...

Haha. Very cool.

"Brown Squadron, this is Number Two, fall in on my port wing."

I am working on a similar squadron of a YT-1300 and a 4-strong squadron of Z95 Headhunters. The Headhunter- for the discerning pilot who is far too broke for an X-wing...but at least they have a hyperdrive engine*!

*Well, usually. Unless you are so totally broke you are flying Clone Wars relics instead of retrofitted models.

Haha yes, that was kind of my thought as well.

Ah.. the Z95! Would love it if they made a miniature release of one of those. Where do I know those from, wasn't it the old X-wing or Tie-fighter game?

I remember them from "X-wing vs. TIE fighter", so they were likely in the earlier games.

Did you just paint straight onto the mini or did you do any prep work beforehand?

Really, really easy to paint. Literally they took 10 minutes (I've also got a massive pile of unpainted stuff!) Just used normal acrylic paints. They seem to take paint quite well.

Think it would be quite cool to have a cheaper Rebel ship than the Tie-fighter, something around 15pts with just 1 shield and reduced offensive capability.
