Waaaaay back when in the 80s and 90s the two games were in fact connected, if not only by the fact that they actually made models of fantasy Chaos Warriors using 40K weapons.

Now the Elves are more like the Eldar (souls, the war god Khaine), GW wrote a bunch of 40K weapons into the fantasy world in the Albion campaign, Amazons in Mordheim had sci-fi weapons unearthed from Lustria, and with the new Necron fluff, the Slann have been officially brought back into the 40K universe after their omission following the Rogue Trader 1st edition era.

I would say they are consistently moving closer together, regardless of what GW says on the matter. Because they are the ones who then reinforce it with official material!

I would honestly like to see how a 40k invading army would fare against the entire Fantasy World.

I mean, an 'average' game of 40k is say 1850-2000 points, correct?

an 'average' game of fantasy is what, 3500? Not sure as I don't play fantasy

if 40k kept it's own AP system, and fantasy's weapons knocked points off 40k's armour with Strength etc, which world (universe) would win?

For me it makes the most sense if the demons in fantasy are more squishy, otherwise they would not have been taken down by swords and such.

The problem with this idea, fluff-wise, is that several of those daemons are the same daemons as WH40k (the special characters). Why is Fateweaver or Skarbrand more squishy in on the WHFB fantasy planet but not a WH40k one, for example?

Because the energy with which a daemon may materialize is constantly changing, and any one moment such daemons may be capable of taking chunks out of titans, at another, they may be felled by a single man.

The warp habitually makes inconsistencies, and it may be that the WHFB universe is one such example.

Whichever one fires from orbit first...

40k's Orbit control system aside I mean. Because I dare say there is enough Magical potential on the Fantasy World to scrap any starships that stay in orbit for to long.

This. I've always had a pretty serious suspicion that the WHFB world is actually part of the WH40k universe, and it seems to be a pretty widely held view. Wouldn't be surprised if that's what GW is eventually going for.
