It looks like they can only take an honor guard squad, and not a command squad. Since I am running white scars and I want to run a lot of bikers, if I want a second command squad besides khan I would have to take a commander right?

warhammer 40k mmo. If I can drive an ork trukk into the back of a space marine dread and explode in a fireball of epic, I can die happy!

Yes i believe you have to take another generic captain for a second command squad. Idont see anything that limits how many command squads you can have in an army, as long as they are selected with an appropriate hq choice.

you can only take a command squad if you have taken a captain or the special characters listed in the entry for command squads (see the small text in the box).

Chapter masters and some other special characters can only take honor aurd squads.

only marneus calgar can unlock additional squads behond the normal.

if you think of them as having a start value of 0 allowed and get a +1 per character.

also worth noting that if you take a command/honor gaurd squad that the character joins them and cannot leave until the unit is dead and is counted as an upgrade character until that condition is met

Might want to take a look at the honour guard/command squad again. That rule no longer exists. You can buy the squad and do not have to join it at all. Buying a chapter master or a captain unlocks the option to take the squad but they are no longer an upgrade to the character. Don't believe they have been for at least 2 editions.

What do you mean by this? A character can join or leave a squad whenever they choose. The unit does not have to die for the character to leave.

Forest hunter sept ~3500
guardians of the covenant 4th company ~ 6000

This used to be a common rule - called "Retinue", "Bodyguard" or similar - back in 4th edition. A lot of people still assume it is around (IT isnt - it was deprecated in the 5th edition book)
