I don't know if this is the right thread and its more of a 30k thread. lately I have been using a legion based list from the Horus Heresy books to play against my friends since i don't really care for the CSM codex and was wanting to try something different. I also like all the vehicles and rules from the horus heresy books. So i had a landraider i was going to fix up but instead decided to convert it into a spartan assault tank

here are my pics of it. is it good enough to be used as one? is it big enough? and would you let me use it? its not complete but i will have the other sponson done this weekend when i get the lascannons

if you have any ideas on how i can improve it that would be great too

It doesn't look tall enough, how tall is it compared to a Rhino?

I would also remove the track guard from the top and have tracks going all the way around as that is a big part of the look. If you can I would make the track wider as well.

The spartan is the same height as a Land Raider Proteus, which in turn is the same height as a normal GW land raider. The model is based on a normal Land Raider and therefore the height is fine.

It looks nicely done so far. Good luck wtih the rest.

Please excuse any spelling errors. I use a tablet frequently and software keyboards are a pain!

I can't believe there is a whole inch difference between the two. A few mm maybe.

The spikes on that close up the height a fair amount, now measure how big those spikes actually are.

Have a look at the FW video, it has the whole family up to the armored proteus (proteus is the same size as the Spartan, see the picture on the Spartan's page on FW) on it, it is clearly "more than a few mm". Having actually played against Spartans I have compared the size a few times.

Hmm... fair enough, maybe it is a bit higher than I thought. The original Land Raider design is definately quite a bit higher than the current normal land raider, but the Proteus isn't as tall as that. I still don't think it is a full inch of height difference though, but I've been wrong before

Regardless, given the height of even a normal Land Raider I think the differences wouldn't make much difference during a normal game.

Yeah the height was one of the things I was worrying about. Thats part of the reason i made the bolter on the top kind of higher than the landraiders frame. I would like to remove the tread guards but I dont have any tread to continue all the way around it unfortunately, so i wont really have a way of doing that.

Hmmmm.... I might make the tracks chunkier.

Blood and Skulls do a chunky replacement track for a baneblade that'd be perfect, not cheap but looks really good.

Before the Spartan was made into an actual model, I believe it was a very old White Dwarf conversion from way back in the day of a Land Raider and Rhino put together.

So it's totally legit if people make their own Spartan. It's not like Land Raiders grow on trees.

Hail the Emperor.
