Subject: Tinting clear plastic with Future floor polish?

I'm looking for a way to tint the clear plastic canopy of my Stormtalon yellow. I recently stumbled across a this tutorial: http://www.swannysmodels.com/Tinting.html Has anyone attempted this or a similar method of tinting clear plastic before? I'm open to other ideas, but so far this seems the best method for me, since I can't seem to find anyone that makes a clear yellow paint!

I would use the future with a yellow glaze mixed in or just a drop of the desired color into the future. The idea is sound, so I guess give it a try and let us know how it worked out for you. Using a proper pigment and not food coloring would greatly improve the results.

If I had an airbrush, then I would definitely do this

Doing just a little bit more research shows that future is sold as a floor polish, but it's nothing more than a clear acrylic! So any clear acrylic paint, like Testor's for example, should have the same effect, though with a much higher price tag. It seems S.E. Johnson bought out the company that made future, and it's now available under the Pledge brand name as Pledge Floor Finish with Future. One 27 oz. bottle retails for about the same amount as what Testor's wants for a 1 oz. can of clear acrylic.

Even this, I couldn't seem to find (that's the same name I was led to in my previous research). Went out on a limb and grabbed some Pledge (still S.C. Johnson) FloorCare Multi-Surface Squirt & Mop at Walmart. No mention of "Future" anywhere on the label, but it seemed to be the right stuff - already successfully used it as a medium for DIY ink washes (flows nicely - seems to have a surfactant already in the mix) and as a standalone clear coat. Lovely citrus scent, too.
OP already seems to have his answer, but for anyone else on the prowl, there is hope!

I would also recommend the Tamiya Clear Yellow, but if you are looking for Future in the US it is now called Pledge with Future Shine.

Yes I have done this many times. It works. Follow Swanny's directions, he knows what he is talking about. Tamyia clear (color) would not achieve the same effect.

You can get a similar effect with the Tamiya colour, but you absolutely need to airbrush, without, dipping the canopy is the only way. Be warned, you MUST have properly cleaned the canopy; any grease at all will disrupt the flow and give you a visible blemish in the finish. Soapy water, gentle rubbing, then properly rinse and dry.
