Hellbrute being an MC instead of a walker is one of the few recent instances that I would agree with. Dreadknights, Wraithknights, and the Tau guys are wrong to be labeled as MC, this guy, yeah he is an MC alright.

I like them both for varying reasons (although I think the hellbrute name is terrible). The Hell brute feels like a dreadnought of a chapter or warband that has been entirely lost in chaos mutations rampant or the mad tinkering of a warpsmith. The dreadnought feels more like the legions that accept chaos to further their gains or don't like chaos at all.
I'll agree with the above posters, of all the walkers to get mc, I don't quite get how Dreadknigths or Tau got it when it makes far more sense for the helbrute to (I'd say Wraightknights work simply because of the odd bone structure and fused human minds spread out).

Yeah, the big fleshy metallic thing with exposed flesh being a vehicle is kind of baffling. If Hellbrutes were a new unit along with Chaos Dreadnoughts, that'd be interesting and fitting. Might make Chaos Dreads redundant, but it'd be neat.

I really feel that the good (evil) ole' Chaos Space Marines need new models that are more in line with the Dark Vengeance models. While there is nothing inherently wrong with the current models they just look dated now.

Very dated sadly.
IMO the release of the helbrute is great as it gives a good option for those who want a chaos warped dred, but still leaves the option of using a chaosified SM dred for those (like myself) who play Iron Warriors and don't want anything demonic or warped, but pure tech based.
Nothing redeems the name though ; p The dred rules in general are only slightly viable for armour saturation imo when you flood the board with AV so their limited anti tank ability has too much to choose from. Those can be easily fixed. "You face Jaraxus, Ered... ahh... Warped Dred of the burning legion!" and GW could write non-gak rules one day, who knows ; p

The DV Hellbrute model just screams Monstrous creature to me, perhaps they should have had it separate? Like regular chaos dreadnoughts and ones so warped that they're now hellbrutes.

Forgeworld make the best chaos dreadnaughts. And guess what else? They actually sell them separately. and they're posable. Crazy, right? I voted Dreads because of forgeworld, not the old metal chaos dreds. I couldn't stand those things.

The very least they could do would be to give the Helbrute Daemon rules as it is explicitly described as a Daemon engine. But DeQs apparently can't have nice things.

Maybe they should have put it in the Chaos Codex an MC with the ability to take dreadnought weapons but also the ability to swap one for a chaos god specific weapon. Like an axe that has concussive and ripper for Khorne, something that fires an 18inch beam that is str 4 but ignores armor for Tzeech, large template weapon that does damage based on leadership of the unit and causes pinning for Slaanesh, flamer template that wounds on a 2+ for Nurgle.

The model for the hellbrute is a neat concept - I just wish it was easy to place in another pose.
My preference goes to the chaos dreadnought as it looks much more classic.

How is it so difficult for people to understand that the helbrute IS a chaos dreadnought and they are exactly the same thing? There were not *both* options because they are the same exact option. It was a name change not the addition of a new unit.
To the OP, don't like the helbrute figs? then use dreadnought models instead. I've got some helbrutes in my chaos forces, a bunch of forge world chaos dreads and even an old style metal chaos dread from ages back. They all use the same exact rules so it really doesn't matter in the least. I even have an extra contemptor in my slaaneshi army as well.

I prefer Dreadnought, Hellbrute is overdone but still ok.
The name is dumb as hell.

Yes I dislike personally them so I am using dreds and converting them as I see suitable.
I wanted to know what people think in general about them two.
