About Underworld :
Mr Morden wrote:Please don't diss one of my favourite movie series ever.............seriously I love them.
Opinion is one thing - but fact it ain't
Well, just try to establish the timeline of the vampires' origin, and fit each event in it's place. If you can't do that in a consistent manner, that's enough fact for me .
And I'm talking about the vampires' origin because we have absolutely no information whatsoever about anything related to the time period at which the movies actually take place. But even with all that blurry blur around everything in the present era, that whole “elder turnaround” makes no bloody sense at all when you come to think on it !
I actually enjoyed the first movie quite a lot the first time I saw it, if I remember well. I was quite young and foolish back then. Seeing the sequel, and then watching the first one again some time later totally killed the movie for me. It actually made me feel like Cassidy in Blood and Whiskey.
Cue obligatory demotivator excerpt from this awesome comic :
(Not meant as directed toward you, of course, it was directed toward some bunch of guys acting kind of like some characters from the comics on another forum when I made it)
It took the Blade TV series to reconcile me with this “trendy vampire” thing afterward. But still, only because it kept somehow grounded within some kind of “natural” world.

Plot-wise, I'd like to see Chaos as the antagonists in an SoB movie. They're natural enemies, after all. Word Bearers especially would be a nice fit, lots of chances to compare and contrast the fanaticism of the two opposing armies.

Beckinsale? She's cardboard.
Give me Dame Judy Dench as the Canoness. Give me Lena Headey as the Sister Superior. Give me Michelle Rodriguez, Linda Hamilton, Katee Sackhoff, Jena Malone, and Emily Browning as the Battle Sisters. Give me Sophie Turner, Saoirse Ronan and Chloe Moretz as Novitiates.
Give me Vin Diesel as the Inquisitor of the Ordo Hereticus.
Plot (Note: because this is a Hollywood production, significant liberties will be taken, because I want to sell tickets and get butts in seats):
On a distant world in a far-flung and isolated corner of the Imperium of Man, there stands a Priory of the Adepta Sororitas, responsible for the training of the next generation of Battle Sisters.
The sub-sector is under the threat of invasion by a roving fleet of Chaos Marauders, blood-thirsty pirates and foul sorcerers from the depths of the Eye of Terror. Recently, the priory has lost the former Priest who represented the Ecclesiarchy's interest in the goings-on, replaced by a relative newcomer to the sub-sector, the unsettling Priest (Charles Dance).
Dialogue reveals some conflicts between the Priest and the Canoness, differences in doctrinal interpretations, in the standards of training, in the behavior of the Sisters present. But questions remain as to which is correct, and which is found wanting. Has the Canoness grown too close to her charges on this backwater world and let standards slip? Or is the newly-arrived Priest a member of some radical Istvaanian faction within the Ecclesiarchy, driven to foment conflict and war within the Imperium?
The planet is attacked by the forces of Chaos, because they seek to seize and corrupt the holy relics held there. As luck would have it, an Inquisitor of the Ordo Hereticus has also arrived on the world, pursuing his own goals. This, of course, makes both the Priest and the Canoness wary.
Still, differences must be put aside to defend the priory from Chaos' advancing forces, but the few Sisters and Novices present are grossly outnumbered by the Traitors, forcing a fighting withdrawal through the halls of the cathedral-fortress... until they are separated and forced to fight in small groups split between the Inquisitor, the Priest and the Canoness.
At last, the survivors converge on the chamber wherein the relics are kept, interrupting the leader of the forces of Chaos (John Lithgow). Here, in the climactic battle, it is revealed who has betrayed who, who serves who, and who has fallen to the Arch-Enemy and who has remained true to the Golden Throne of Terra.

Nope. Big error there .
I like rubbish like “Alien versus Ninja”, or “Female convict scorpions - Jailhouse 14”, or “Veneno para las hadas”, or “The seventh seal”, or “Evil Dead 2” or “The man from Earth”. For me, it's more either go for realistic, or go crazy all the way to flying rodent gak awesome.
Mr Morden wrote:Blade was dull for me - rather watch Vampire Diaries - sexier girls and better plot.
Sexier girls doesn't really appeal to me for a movie. I have no idea about the plot of Vampire Diaries though, so I can't comment on that.
Well, if we can agree on what is okay and what is terrible in Underworld, we can take inspiration from the good things, and leave out the bad things. SO IT'S DEFINITELY NOT OFF TOPIC EVEN THOUGH IT IS !
Meiko Kaji could play a very very very taciturn and determinate sister, if the movie was Japanese. But I heard she don't want to act in non-Japanese movies.

I've said it before, but Faith & Fire would be an awesome fit for a movie. All the backstory you need to know can be summed up in a few sentences:
Humanity was nearly destroyed by psykers, because they draw their power from the Warp and can let bad things in. The Emperor reunited humanity and founded the Imperium of Mankind. The Sisters of Battle think the Emperor is awesome for obvious reasons, and think psykers suck for obvious reasons.
You don't need to know anything about aliens, the Horus Heresy, or anything else, just psykers, the Emperor and the Imperial Church.

Humanity wasn't nearly destroyed by psykers, it was nearly destroyed by it's technological advances. Psykers are what holds the Imperium together. The SoB really deal with Psykers when they become Witches, the definition of which can probably be summed up as; Psyker does something bad? Witch.
Benedict Cumberbatch as a Dark Apostle.
Alan Rickman as an Inquisitor, with Danny Devito as either his assistant or a priest.

Word bearer are marines. Marines are booooring. Let's make it some kind of conspiracy with a lot of cultists and maybe some Word Bearer as end bosses or something, but only for a very few scenes.
Don't forget, the Sisters are about as much Internal affairs as they are armies against the outer enemy. So maybe conspiracy in the middle of an Ork invasion ?

Kind of the angle I was going for. While the forces of Chaos are the more overt foes, the bigger foe is one of the 3 principle leads being a traitor (either the Inq, the Canoness or the Priest...) ....haven't fleshed the idea out enough to decide who it would be, but it would hopefully be the sort of thing that would keep the audience guessing until the big reveal.

Psykers caused the downfall of Man (the Age of Strife). That is an incident that can be summed up in one sentence and makes it easy for a complete neophyte to understand why the Sisters of Battle try to keep psykers under control. The (justified) persecution of psykers also provides an easily understandable motivation for the villains. I very much doubt you're capable of giving the Word Bearers the same treatment.

I would like Marines as antagonists. They'd be a suitably dire threat, better for epic action scenes than mere cultists. Though cultists would be suited for a more conspiracy-laden plot. Maybe have the cultists being lead by a Marine,or summoning some at the end?
I also see Orks as a nice antagonist for the Sisters. Disciplined, serious soldiers against uruly, uncouth brutes. The action scenes would be pretty great. One could also make some amusing comparisons between the power of WAAAGH and faith. Not that they're actually the same, mind you, but fans sometimes draw comparisons often.

@Alex, quite right. I'd forgotten that bit of 40k lore. My apologies!
You could have the story build over a trilogy. Following on from the branches of the Inquisition.
Xenos - Enemy Without - Starts off with a defence against Xenos incursion, hints of treachery/conspiracy towards end.
Hereticus - Enemy Within - Traitors/conspirators revealed, slowly leading into the forces of Chaos.
Malleus - Enemy Beyond - Word Beares & Daemons.

So what Order would our Sisters be from? One of the main six? A Minor Order? Maybe a mix? I'm going to vote for having at least one Argent Shroud Sister in there. Heroic, (mostly) silent badassery would work well in a film. Bloody Rose's aggression would also go well with the fighty parts. AlexHolker wrote:No you could not, because the audience would not get the joke. You would smother the movie in its own backstory.
Sure you could. Just have a shot of the Orks powering up with WAAAGH, and the Sisters being driven by faith. No knowledge of the fluff needed, just a subtle comparison that you can appreciate even more if you're a fan.

I'm going to vote for having at least one Argent Shroud Sister in there. Heroic, (mostly) silent badassery would work well in a film. Bloody Rose's aggression would also go well with the fighty parts.
I would vote for not feeling any need to conform to such ridiculous stereotypes. They should all be from a single squad from a single order, unless the plot requires different.

Sure you could. Just have a shot of the Orks powering up with WAAAGH, and the Sisters being driven by faith. No knowledge of the fluff needed, just a subtle comparison that you can appreciate even more if you're a fan.
But that is only an interesting comparison if you have some basis to consider it noteworthy. For all Joe Average knows, everyone in the 41st Millenium does that.
