Hey guys, I play a mostly deathwing army, which got me thinking, all the dark angel warlord traits are terrible. What does increase/decrease reserve rolls do for deathwing? Nothing. So I started looking through them, and found some that were REALLY USEFUL, but I'm not exactly sure if they're usable.

For instance a roll of 6 on strategic gives you the ability to move any unit up 3d6, this is amazingly useful in my opinion. It let me move a land raider up 14 inches last night, and assualt turn 1 with my deathwing knight squad. I started reading through the 3 that anyone can choose from, and wow they really outshine the dark angels ones.

So I'm wondering what everyone considers to be their best/optimum warlord trait?

Also when your warlord has a preselected trait like Belial, and Ezekiel both have "The Hunt", can I choose not to take that and pick to roll my dice from the charts in the BRB, or am I stuck with them if these guys are my warlord?

Also, can I designate say a cheapo 65 pt librarian as my HQ instead of Belial if I'm using 2 HQ's?

A couple things.

1. You can't leave your deployment zone with the trait you mentioned.
2. The characters with preset traits can't choose an alternate.

3.I think the scoring warlord is the best one in the BRB. Of the codex options the no scatter deep strikes and D3 units infiltrating are my favorites.

Ah I didn't see anything mentioning not leaving your own deployment, so what exactly would be the point of it, I mean you can already deploy at the very edge of your deployment zone, so is it just to maybe throw off your opponent if you're at the bottom of the turn or what?

You can use it to set up a shot first turn on something you couldn't previously see. Not one of my favourites but it's had some shining moments here and there.

My favourites are Scoring, obviously, and also the one that lets you outflank the warlord and his squad. Having something like a kitted-out captain and command squad or a Destroyer Lord with wraith retinue coming from the sides can be brutal (I've used the first, been on the receiving end of the second. T'was painful, to say the least.)

A close third place would be the ability to use your warlord's LD for anything within 12". This either doubles my Ld10 bubble from my Lord Commissar, or gives me a bulwark of Ld 10 marines.

The option for a free turn of TL on SM is also pretty nice.

As for useless ones, most of the reserve manipulators are too random to be useful, and when your SW wolf lord rolls the counter attack trait, you know you're in for one of those days...

You didnt read the trait all the way through then mate Its just at the end there. It specifically says 'These redeployments cannot take a unit out of its deployment zone'. And redeploying within your deployment zone can be very useful.

As well as what Eldarain said, you can also use it to hide targets after your opponent has deployed to set up a shot on them. Or spread out a unit to hamper deep strikers. There are lots of uses for the trait rather than simply using it to get further forward.

As a Dark Eldar player, one of my favourites is Night Attacker on the Strategic Traits. This is both fluffy and incredibly useful for army wide Night Vision. I also am a big fan of Immovable Object, as a Scoring Archon with some incubi can have pretty much any objective they want!

The demon one that gives a re-roll on the warpstorm table is invaluable.

The plural of codex is codexes.

This one. On Coteaz. 12" Ld10 bubble for Psychic tests in a Grey Knight army? Don't mind if I do.

My favorite Chaos Space Marine one is number 3, where it lets you Infiltrate D3 Infantry Units. I love being able to do that if I get 2, to do it with my Jump Lord and Warp Talons, so that if I go second, I get to Assault on Turn 1.

Chaos is the only sanity left.

Personally I find myself leaning towards the ability to redeploy units before the game actually commences. It allows you some tactical viability by opening up new targets to shoot, or removing yourself from the sights of your enemy. Since I'm a bit mech heavy at the moment, removing a tank from a dedicated anti-tank unit's sight is very helpful. If your opponent deployed his men to directly counter yours, you have the potential to change his game plan entirely. Great way to shake up your opponent before the match.

That, or the Night Fighter one can come in handy. Since most IG tanks come standard with searchlights, it doesn't hinder me too much, but an opponent will find himself having trouble putting wounds on my now (almost) durable grunts. I used that last night with an Aegis to blow holes in a Chaos line and lost two Guardsmen in return. Not too shabby. Anything that gives me an extra boost in the shooting phase is nothing to sneeze at.

For Tau I think the best one is (for my play style):
A Ghost Who Walks Among Us, it lets you do 3D6" for jetpack thrusts instead of 2D6" which is good because everyone does the jump shoot jump move with the units they can, helps get out of possibly bad situations and you don't want your warlord to die lol

The one that lets you reroll 1s to hit for units with a certain range of the warlord is just okay because it's Tau your going to be using markerlights anyways but that extra reroll might let you get 1 extra hit which could be useful idk haha
