There are 17 new datasheets for fortifications. Wall of Martyrs Imperial Defense Line is two sets of trenches for 80pts that only take up one fortifications slot, while a Wall of Martyrs Imperial Defense Emplacement is a single trench for 40pts. So there are lots of new options, that include multiple fortifications and brings them into a single foc slot. Here are some of the new fortifications options Wall of Martyrs Imperial Defense Emplacement Wall of Martyrs Imperial Defense Line Macro Cannon Aquila Strongpoint Skyshield Landing Pad (can be upgraded to start a flyer on it) Imperial Strongpoint (two bastions and an aegis defense line) Imperial Defense Network (defense line, defense emplacement, imperial bunker, and a pair of vengeance weapon batteries) Can add quad-autocannons to the bunker There are three new Seige War missions also included in the release http://natfka.blogspot.com/2013/11/escalation-and-lords-of-war.html an anonymous source on Faeit 212 wrote: Escalation gives each army access to at least one Lord of War that are for 'regular' 40k games. There appears to be a difference from Apocalypse and regular 40k games, but the exact rules for them I do not know. Any Lords of War though are expensive in points, and I have been told that the Khorne Lord of Skulls matches the point value found in apocalypse, sitting at 888pts. There are only certain units that are in escalation, so no others are allowed for regular 40k games. There are only 16 listed in the new book. As to the point level of the games, there is mention of 1500 or 2000pt games. Here are the known models that can be used for regular games in Escalation. Imperial Guard-Baneblade or Shadowsword Chaos Space Marines-Khorne Lord of Skulls Space Marines: Thunderhawk Tyranids: Harridan Eldar and Dark Eldar: Revenant Titan Necrons: Necron Obelisk Ork: Stompa http://natfka.blogspot.com/2013/10/40k-fortification-supplementexpansion.html#more Fortifications hit 6th edition with a bang upon its release. Instantly Aegis Defense lines were everywhere, and still today we see them in a good percentage of lists. Until now though, updates and new fortifications have been virtually non-existent with the exception of the Apocalypse releases which included some 40k rules in the box. So now we have rumors of a large expansion into fortifications, including racial versions of the existing ones, and a supplement/expansion that will cover it. Months ago, we had something along those lines was in the early works, with a loose estimated timeframe of before or during summer 2014. Whispers of this expansion have been appearing now and then, and finally something that looks a little more solid has run across my desk. A fortification supplement, something we have been really wanting to see as a community, and something that I would be picking up myself. Please remember that these are rumors, and according to this rumor, the supplement is still in the works. an anonymous source on Faeit 212 wrote: there's a supplement that's divided by race with new fortifications and also new racial upgrades to specific fortifications. For example the aegis defense line is imperial, but there'll be a tau version with a rail cannon instead of Icarus lascannon (not actual rules, just an example). Currently it's being playtested as requiring a detachment of the race to upgrade the fortification, but that might change (everyone's been using imperial stuff for a long time now). Just to be clear, the base of the fortification such as bastion, aegis, fortress, etc will all be the same, just the upgrades/guns that will be racially specific. In so far as models, expect only imperial versions, and a modeling section on converting building racially inspired fortifications. The book will have the rules for all the currently released fortifications plus a couple new ones (with models) and then as mentioned rules for racial upgrades. an Anonymous source on faeit212 wrote: There are going to be two new expansions for Warhammer 40k in December, both pointed directly at getting new options into your standard 40k games. New Fortifications and Super-Heavy options will become available to play without playing Apocalypse, focusing instead on regular games of 40k. Stronghold Assault *40k expansion for regular games of 40k *Rules for 17 Fortifications like the Wall of Martyrs Imperial Defense Line and the Macro-Cannon Aquila Strongpoint *Some Contain Several Fortifications that can be Taken as a Group that take up one Fortification Slot *Upgrades for Fortifications and New Rules for Buildings

Well one phrase makes me doubt this is real.....
In so far as models, expect only imperial versions, and a modeling section on converting building racially inspired fortifications.
GW is not going to go back to encouraging folk to build/modify their own scenery, just not going to happen
and a release with rules but no models is clearly not where GW is after the chapter house affair
eg it looks like Kyrenko (spelling) was removed from the Adeptas Soraritas digital codex at the last minute as there looks to be an issue with the production of the old finecast model at the moment...

I think a fortifications book done similarly to Death from the Skies would make sense. It was a simple stopgap book and I think this'd fare about the same.

Actually it rather makes sense. People are encouraged to buy the Imperial "base" model and then convert it to their respective Xenos lists via the "upgrade". This way, GW sells Imperial fortifications to non-Imperial players.

GW selling upgrade sets would make sense too though.
For example, imagine a "Tau Fortification Pack" with components to change an Aegis, Bastion and some other bits.
May even get people going. 'Well, I have an Aegis Defence Line, and all these parts to upgrade a bastion too. I might as well just buy one to use them up."

I already did that...
I think I would rather see them actually finish writing the core rules for fortifications before releasing more stuff that without those core rules will still not work properly... And, frankly, going the 'just tack xenos weapons onto the existing kits' route is the height of laziness.
This is certainly not the Games Workshop that produced the game that got me hooked on wargaming... I miss that Games Workshop.

To be fair, it isn't the Games Workshop that exists now either. It is the Games Workshop of some person who is fleecing Natfka and he hasn't figured it out yet.

Every White Dwarf has a kit bashing article, and about half of them have articles about how they converted terrain for this month's battle report. It's definitely encouraged. Scratchbuilding is pretty much unheard of, but converting is definitely something they endorse.

Converting forts to other forts though, it would play into the 3rd parties that GW has made decisions around. If GW will never make a tau defense line people might be fine with the imperial one, if the tau defense line has rules but no model people may be more likely to buy from 3rd parties. That said, this book sounds great and I'd be happy if it existed.

"You asked for Xenos terrain, and we listened: Now you can upgrade your Imperial Bastion with venom cannons and rail guns."
To me this sounds like a crappy variant of all the "Next Xeno Codex will get extra fortifications" rumours, only less convincing.
If this should turn out true, then GW's answer to all those non- GW Xeno defense lines is just lame.

So far almost every fortification rumor has been false. The only true ones were when the FS Redoubt and such came out.

Exactly. If it ain't in a box with multiple â„¢'s after every other word then GW won't do it. The only terrain stuff GW does is from their own official kits.

Not only this but their "modifications" will more than likely be adding bits from those army types (IE shield drones glued to imperial lines or skulls on the chaos lines). THis way they sell kits for the bits and the IG line without actually having to produce anything new.
Models are already out there for the majority of the races through secondary vendors anyway so this way GW is at least trying to step into the market they created.

Highly doubt it. GW isn't going to make rules for anything that won't directly sell a model they make. Otherwise it just inspires people to go out and buy 'competitor's' miniatures. Chapterhouse and all...

Again, if the rules are "glue a railgun to your bastion" that sells GW kits. And even if you buy a competitor's kit you still had to pay money for a book that was written in 15 minutes. It's the ideal zero-effort book, you just make up a list of "glue a railgun to your bastion", "glue a dark lance to your bastion", etc, make sure the point costs are all cheaper than a standard bastion, and then sell it for $50.

There is no such thing as a hobby without politics. "Leave politics at the door" is itself a political statement, an endorsement of the status quo and an attempt to silence dissenting voices. |

Just like all these other full-priced "supplements".
It sucks when a Codex gets invalidated by a new edition or Codex. Now imagine your Codex and all the full-priced supplements for that Codex suddenly being invalidated. What fun!!!

This is not going to happen. I think it is pretty darn clear that GW does not want to make racially-specific fortifications. If that were the case, you can bet your boots that Chapterhouse Studios would have seen another lawsuit related to its most recent kickstarter. Unless GW has simply wised up and realized that it can allow small competitors to test a market, and then spin out similar products to a much broader customer base. That would be a radical change in GW's behavior, but a change for the better. I would love to see GW come out with both rules and models for racially specific fortifications and not sue Chapterhouse Studios. That would be not only the intelligent thing to do, but also the mature thing to do.

Best_Pone;6970590 wrote:I've been hearing talk of a couple of new expansions for 40K due for release next month:
The first is a fortifications expansion, containing new datasheets and missions for use in regular 40k. I'm also under the understanding that some of these datasheets allow you to take several fortifications as a single choice.
The second expansion brings superheavy vehicles (and gargantuan creatures) to regular 40k. My understanding is that this will be achieved by adding a new super heavy slot to the force org chart, and that you will be limited to the choices detailed within this expansion (I think there's approximately 15 of them). This expansion will also include new missions.
