Ok so let me give a little background before we proceed. This is my first list on this site and i recently got back into warhammer 40k. Played Tau and CSM in 5th edition and was happy to find the Tau had gotten a much needed upgrade. So I start playing again and have come into contact with a person who likes to power game. So far our matches are 1 win for me, 1 win for him, and a draw. He plays two armies: CSM with deamon allies (or vice versa) and necrons.

Against his necrons i won fielding 3 riptides and some other stuff.

Against his deamons i lose because he runs a 300 point winged tzeentch demon that is just ridiculous.

So i decided to make a list to counter his, one that he would not expect from me ( i usually play a bit of a tau castle list with suits jumping around).

So here it is, all help and advice is appreciated.

Death star HQ- 900 points

Kroot Carnivore Squad 70

Fast Attack-154

Elites-570
Riptide 285

Riptide 285
-Ion Accelerator, fusion blaster, Stim Injector, velocity tracker, 2 missile shield drones

Aegis defense line 70
-teleport homer

2000/2000

the idea is the fire warriors man the defence line with pathfinders nearby doing their markerlight tactic.

Riptides Jump shoot jump unleashing hell on the enemy

Farsight deep strikes with his suits capable of shooting and wiping out two vehicles and hopefully a whole squad. The gun drones get the BS5 from the commander and the whole squad gets re-roll to hit, ignore cover, and Hit-and-run.
at 12" the fire output for this squad will be:
-18 plasma gun shots (16 at bs 3 and 2 at bs 5)
-20 pulse carbine shots all at BS 5
-4 melta gun shots at bs 3
-2 flamers
all of which might i remind you re-roll to hit.

so your thoughts?

Which is your list in a nutshell....a big blob of crisis suits, a gunline behind an ADL and dual riptides. Not that that is bad or anything, but it is what you are fielding.

If your going to use a buffmander, take the neurochip. Tank hunters/monster hunter will help immensely against either army he fields. If you ever have spare points, take the neuroweb jammer, well worth it but not required. The onager gauntlet is another good budget wargear item. Iridium is good, but expensive. Last, move the thrusters here as the commander can take more damage to keep them alive.

The riptides are fairly bloated. Velocity trackers, stims and 2 drones are very expensive. Trimming these down would buy a broadside or 2, maybe a hammerhead, or lots more troops. The drones are a bad call cause if one dies, you have to take a morale check(the last thing you want to happen). Stims and velocity trackers are OK in their own right, but 2 on the same model adds up quick. They are your only AA against necron air and flying MC's, but the farsight squad can drop a flier with twin linked, ignore cover and tank hunters/monster hunter. You also have markerlights in a pinch.

A bit more dakka would be a good call, and your deathstar might be a bit bloated.

The most important rule of 40K-Page XVII of the 6th edition rulebook, the figure at the top right of the page. "Shake hands with your opponent and thank them for a good battle and fun experience." Then go out for a beer.
