So I am playing thousand point games at the mo with my crons. How do I keep my one squad of wraiths alive long enough to assault something against the likes of dark eldar (and Tau/IG) who can focus fire enough on that unit to maybe take them out turn one? I don't want to deep strike if I have a flyer full of warriors also in reserve, right? Not enough points to stay well on the table...

I'm trying to run a full unit of wraiths, two barges and a scythe (hard to just use one scythe, feels like you need 2 to really keep the dakka going)

What point levels are you playing? Sounds like 1000?

They are going to get shot up. Eating a large volume of bullets is the Wraith's Achilles. Use LOS blocking terrain and their ability to ignore terrain the best you can, but ultimately you have to just learn to use the fact that they are going to get focused down to your advantage.

Well, you could take a DLord with a weave to lead the Wraiths. He can be used as a bullet cacher to some extent.

They are going to get focused and the 3++ only goes so far. Try to keep them hidden for maybe 1-2 turns to thin out enemy lines a little before rushing forward. I find that moving them forward on turn 1 when everything squishy you have are either in reserve or inside AV13 leaves no other target for anti-infantry fire. And there's plenty of anti-infantry fire in almost every list.

Could be worth a shot to Deep Strike them next to where you're going to unload your NS Warriors. If the enemy focuses on the Wraiths your Gauss' can do their talking unimpeded or if he focuses on the Warriors your Wraiths are going to wreck his day. Target saturation is key. Also the 2+ save DLord can tank some wounds. I fail at making 2+ saves so I recommend this with a little salt.

Very sound advice. T6 and a 2+ goes a long way.

Very sound advice. T5 and a 2+ goes a long way.

Just remember that he's being resolved at T4 due to majority toughness of wraith unit. That said, yes he's still a great tank. Just don't forget to look-out-sir the insta-kills shots though

Yes, but at T6 only an ID wound kills him. S8, won't.

True, the DLord cannot be instantly killed.
