Hi all,

Just started playing 40k and had my first game (500 points) yesterday evening.
We had the following situation and would like to know if we did it correctly:

My brother's Dark Angels tactical squad of 7 Marines and 1 Sergeant (plasma pistol) fired at my Necron Warriors with Overlord (he had an item
which increased his armor save to 2+) within 12 inch so they could all rapid fire at me.

He did 6 normal wounds and 1 plasma wound, but as my Overlord was in front and nearest model i decided to take an "look out sir" roll
for the plasma shot which killed a warrior instead. The other 6 wounds i would take with my Overlord as he had the best save and rolled one
dice at a time so i could take a "look out sir" roll if he received to many wounds which would kill him.

Was this done correctly or did i had to throw the 6 dice at once or should we divide the shots between the unit?

As above, you did it right.
When dealing with a unit with a character (or unit with mixed saves) you need to roll these one at a time.

Quick caveat: The firing player gets to decide which order the Wound pool groups get resolved in. So, your opponent would decide whether you resolved the bolters first, then the plasma, or vice-versa.

Odd question for speed in this scenario. Couldn't you also roll the wounds two at a time, so say if he has 3 wounds, and he fails the first two right off the bat, he could then start taking LoS! saves?

Its acctually suggested for speeding up the game that you roll 3 saves at a time since he has 3 wounds.

Unless you do not want him to take 3 wounds, as you can fail 3 armor saves on that one roll and the Chr would die.

If you do not care about him taking 2 wounds you could roll 2 dice to speed things up by a nanosecond or two...

Even if he rolled 3 saves, he could LoS! all 3 failed saves.

How is this true after Errata has been accounted for?

It is not true, as the FaQ/Errata changed the rules.

No he couldn't, LOS! comes first.

As im playing small battles for now to understand the rules we throw a dice at a time when situations like this happen
(we don't have any rush to finish the game as soon as possible).
