The only game I stopped playing because the gameplay was horrid.

Jane's Advanced Strike Fighters. ITS THE WORST sim ever. Its so arcadey, and it needlessly limits you to about 1/2 what the aircraft can do.

I don't think I managed to stomach playing more than 10 minutes of Frank Herbert's Dune. - The weird anime-ish style RPG version of the book/miniseries/film that had completely messed up looking characters.

I also have to put in Star Wars Force Unleashed 1 (PC Port).
I have absolutely no idea how they managed to make playing as Darth Vader going around slaughtering wookiees and jedi utterly boring.

Another thing where I didn't get past the opening level.

That or World of Warcraft. Talk about a snorefest, I have better things to do with my time than sitting here clicking on boars for three hours.

Are the Dawn of War 2 expansions any better?

Any truly bad games I either enjoy for some quirky reason, or I stop playing immediately and forget about. I remember being really disappointed by Settlers: Heritage of Kings; and anyone who reads the video games forum ought to know my feelings on the new XCOM.

I don't remember playing too many bad games (I've probably buried those memories by playing so many good games). I try to read at least a couple reviews before buying a game to get an idea about whether it will be a game I like.
But, as Master of Orion 3 was mentioned, I do remember trying to play it, and then just going back to MOO2 instead.

Combat Arms.

Or maybe that was just the hideously stupid playerbase.

Apparently it's a tactical shooter game, a little like Call of Duty when they were making their games based on world war 2. Looked it up on Wikipedia so don't take my word for it though.

It's not a WWII shooter though. Just a horrible, bad shooter that I thought would be cool but really, it is gak.

When, exactly, did you play them that they "aren't original"?

Hiding in a dark alley with a sharp knife!

I've been playing games on a PC since 1990 (when I swapped it for my old Comodore and I have seen some pretty dreadful games in my time. But two old ones stand out.....

The first is an old game from 1990 called "Rorke's Drift" depicting the battle of the same name. It was simply awful even by the standards of the time. It was slow moving, repetative and required you to give individual orders to every single one of the 120+ defenders. Did I mention that the interface was terrible and non-intuitive?
http://www.myabandonware.com/game/rorkes-drift-103
It really is too bad that the game was so awful as Rorke's Drift is a subject that simply screams out for a good PC game treatment.

The second is a gem titled Universal Military Simulator.
http://www.abandonia.com/en/games/663/
This was yet another game that failed to live up to the promises that the publisher made. The interface was so bad and the game play so uninspiring, that I gave up trying to play it after about an hour and never installed it again. It's one of the few PC games that I felt totally cheated for buying.

How exactly does one 'play' Big Rigs?

Mandorallen turned back toward the insolently sneering baron. 'My Lord,' The great knight said distantly, 'I find thy face apelike and thy form misshapen. Thy beard, moreover, is an offence against decency, resembling more closely the scabrous fur which doth decorate the hinder portion of a mongrel dog than a proper adornment for a human face. Is it possibly that thy mother, seized by some wild lechery, did dally at some time past with a randy goat?' - Mimbrate Knight Protector Mandorallen.

I love the Paradox strategy games, I play them excessively, but EU: Rome was terrible. While Crusader Kings II and Victoria II captured the time period, Rome didn't at all, and it was just complex to be complex It was disappointing.

In a similar vein, Pax Romana was pretty bad.

Seconded, I played it for a few hours and then uninstalled it, as a massive 40k fan I was quite let down by this. I keep thinking I should force myself to go through it, but my general rule of thumb is that if I'm having to force myself through it, I'm just not going to enjoy it.

Also Overlord, I really love the game but I have had constant issues with it, picked it up with Overlord 2 and some expansion stuff in a steam sale impulse purchase but it crashes constantly or doesn't render/load properly.

Just as the review video shows:

1. Stop your truck.
2. Go into a reverse turn.
3. Move so fast you tear a hole in the space-time continuum.

It's weird how the DoW1 fanboys come out of the woodwork to claim DoW2 is "ermagerd DA WORTS GAEM EVAR" yet again, like cockroaches in a rotting old run-down hotel. Even if you get pissy over the fact that it wasn't a direct clone of DoW1 with no changes because you're a boring person, the claim that DoW2 was the worst PC game ever is absolutely ludicrous and ignorant. Believe me, there have been far, FAR worse games than anything Relic's produced.

Mind you, even my post about Combat Arms was just joking around and me hating on its really crap fanbase so I can hardly judge you for it

Well, while I think it's self-evident that DoW1 was, like, a bajillion times better than DoW2 (except for networking) and anyone who feels differently is probably getting kickbacks from the DoW2 development team to say so publicly, I definitely would not say DoW2 was a bad game, let alone "the worst game".

Also, I just remembered Extreme Paintbrawl. That might be the worst game I ever played - I bought it for $10 at CompUSA and spent longer on the bus home than I did in game.

Still I reiterate that when I saw this thread title, before reading the contents, I immediately, much like a rorschach test, thought "Aliens Colonial Marines"; like the other person before me.

I admit, when I saw the thread, I immediately thought about saying Starcraft just to spite the obnoxious Blizzard fanbase.

As a Total Annihilation fanboy, I see no problem with this.
