Hey sorry if this post exists already but I couldn't find it in my search. Basically I've read about a bunch of your grand moments where a lone troop saves the day but I'm curious about your epic fail moments.

One of mine is...

I was playing a game against my usual opponent who was sporting his usual army of chaos and I was playing my Tau. We were playing so he could test a list he wanted to bring to a tournament so he told me to bring as bad a list as I could fit. So I loaded up my elites with some riptides, threw a few skyrays in the heavy slots to counter his drakes and filled in the blanks with a bunch of pathfinders and fire warriors. He deployed first and I stole initiative on him and the game was off to a solid start.

By the end of it my riptides ended up over charging themselves to death and scattering their shoots into open fields (I didn't pass a single overcharge roll all game and between the 3 of them they killed 1 squad of reg marines). Turn 2 both his drakes came in and proceeded to burn me alive while his noise marines made shirt work of my pathfinders. I decided to kill the drakes with the skyrays and blew all 18 missiles equalling nothing more than 1 hullpoint. Needless to say I didnt accomolish much that game :(

This post could also go into the topic about worst moments with immature players, but here goes anyway.

It was the start of 3rd ed. and I had a small Imperial Fists force, against my friend who was playing Chaos Space Marines. His force consisted of 2x10 Chaos Space Marines and 2x20 Khorne Berzerkers. He basically deployed his normal marines in a thin line in front of his Berzerkers, then ripped my force to pieces.

The worst part for me though was looking back, all my 10 year old self did was whine that he was being cheesy, had almost double the amount of points I did, and just being a generally butthurt little moron. We live and learn I suppose.

A couple of Nurgle rhinos rolled up on my tanks. They get totaled but the guys survived. After three rounds of shooting at them with a pair of Executioners only three plague marines died and the rest wrecked my tanks. Huron Blackheart then challenged my Lord Commissar and instant deathed him on the first swing.

Fun game, fun game. It made me lose faith in the Executioner.

I was playing an Ork player, and he had bunched together his trucks and Battlewagon with a KFF in the center of it all. For three turns, not a single shot went through. Not from my Punisher with Pask, not from my two Executioners, not from my three Vet Squads and the Plasma guns they had, nor my Chimera Multi-Lasers or my Basilisk. Nothing made it past because he literally saved every single shot with that 5+. He then proceeded to wreck my gun line as the orks swarmed out like a green infection.

Kharn, by himself charged into an infantry platoon squad. Kills 9 of them (including the sarge). Last guy makes am awesome Morale check, and over the next couple of turns beat Kharn to death with a lasgun.

Greebo had spent an irritating two minutes in that box. Technically, a cat locked in a box may be alive or it may be dead. You never know until you look. In fact, the mere act of opening the box will determine the state of the cat, although in this case there were three determinate states the cat could be in: these being Alive, Dead, and Bloody Furious.

Kharn is alone and infront of my DA Command Squad with combi-plasmas they fire 10 plasma shots at him, 8 hit, then I roll 7 1's to wound. He only had one wound left to boot. So I charge him with Azrael, only inlfict one wound and he passes his invulnerable save and proceeds to kill Azrael in one round with me failing every invulnerable save.

Kharn then went on to kill my Command Squad and my Deathwing LRC.

Is 'Eavy Metal Calling?

UK

Picture the scene:

Captain Titus of the Ultramarines (Captain with Armour Indomitus, Primarch's Wrath, Teeth of Terra) drop pods in with his squad and tears an imperial Guard squad to shreds in shooting. When the carnage is over, 2 guardsmen remain standing, one holding a meltagun. They pass the Leadership test with the required double ones.

The next turn, Titus splits from the squad to ensure another Kill Point while the Tactical Squad go after more guardsmen. Just to make sure NOTHING CAN GO WRONG he pops the 2+ invulnerable save from the armour and charges. The lasgun fails to hit on overwatch, but the lone meltagunner does not. 6 to hit. 2 to wound... I roll my 2++ and it comes up... 1.

200+ points of captain, as well as STW and a KP, down the drain because one meltagunner with balls of solid adamantium held his ground and got lucky. To be fair, I still won the game 14-3, so I can't really complain.

This one is about a campaign we played. I have an elite unit of Chaos Terminators, with Sorcerer in Term to lead them. No matter how carefully I tried, every time I deep struck them, they would mishap, usually by being within 1" of an enemy, scattering like 11" on the roll. Now the next part can't be coincidence: the fist 5 times, I roll a 1 on the mishap table. 700 points in a 4000 point battle just gone! ...I don't deep strike them anymore. I use transports now. I'm just cursed.

Chaos is the only sanity left.

I remember forgetting to shoot and got tabled on turn one and forcing my commander into melee with a power klaw armed warboss losing yet another game, moving a tactical squad in front of nine tyranid warriors with deathspitters, and making my termies run across the board just so it could charge a tank.

Yeah, I'm awful at tactics and never won a game... yet. The fails were still pretty fun though.

My ONLY game of 6th ed.

Deployed most of my army and held a few units in reserve (to outflank) - went second.

End of first turn, I had NOTHING on the board (my reserves weren't due in before next turn).

Game took 15 minutes from setup to game over.

I stopped playing the game after that - it was no longer the game I started to play in 1987 and no longer the game I WANTED to play.

I still game, just not 40k.

My tank heavy IG vs Drop Pod Blood Angels.

I knew what was going to happen when I agreed to the battle (there was no one else up for battle, everyone already had one). But put simply pod, pod, pod, pod, point blank range. Tanks couldn't stop it. Infantry could do anything about it. etc

My tanks and infantry survived longer then they should have (2 turns) and I damaged and killed 2 fury dreads (those melee claws ones) and a squad or 2 of marines. but I knew it was over before it began. It was just a matter of assaults everywhere that I could not win.

So, you were caught unawares by the rules about reserves changing, so you quit playing the game altogether? Surely that's a bit of an overreaction. I mean I used to start my whole army in reserve sometimes in 5th edition, now I can't, so I don't. Were changing rules about reserves so offensive to you that it was 'no longer the game you wanted to play'? I'm not trying to pick a fight, I genuinely would like to hear why that particular change is such a big deal.

Ha, what do you know about fails.
Played once my friend's tau (was curious about them in 6th) against IG, had full kroot squad charged by IG penal legion psychos - about 4 or 5 survived the overwatch and only one of them survived after CC, but IG won by wounds - and something about 23-24 kroots ran from 1 psycho penal legionaire. You think this is it? NO. Then that glorious bastard rolled 6 for his sweeping advance against my 1 - and THAT MONSTER BUTCHERED 2 DOZENS OF KROOTS FRIGGIN' ALONE.

My Nids against some inquisition GK. I've nuked his important squads and all that's left is to get my Flyrant in CC with his 3 man squad on an objective and I'll win. I fly up and end my turn 6" away from them.

He hovers his two stormravens - no big deal, it's unlikely they'll kill me since they need 6s to hit and I'm T9 from Iron Arm.
Las pistol from the inquisitor squad hits. I fail my grounding test but don't take a wound. His Ravens fire 4 mind strike missiles total and non of them scatter more than 1". Tyrants brain exploded.

There were no changes between fifth and sixth that would've made losing most of your army on turn one due to anything other than you sucking at the deployment. Since you said you deployed most of your army, getting them all killed would've happened the same in fifth, fourth, or third (except that you'd have to wait longer, and be rolling against a higher TN for them to come one). The only difference being playing so bad ended the game fast, instead of being dragged out while your remnants staggered on and got chewed up.

My own worst moment seen in 6th - a squad of wyches had to kill off a depleted unit of firewarriors to get them off an objective vital to winning the game. When the assault phase rolled around, they were under 2" away from the firewarriors, who were also sitting on that mysterious objective that halfed charge distances. Tau player was sweating bullets, cause no way a half dozenish fire warriors could survive that assault. His only hope was for them to roll bad, and overwatch to kill enough they failed the charge.

Wyches charged.

Overwatch killed nothing.

Wyches rolled charge distance and got... snake-eyes for the charge distance. Failure, but since they had fleet, charge was rerolled, and... snake-eyes again.

The wyches just stood there, and waved to the fire warriors, who were trying to look they hadn't just wet their battle armor.

My Manticore has also gotten 3 pie plates to miss the bad guy only to hit my Russes and take 2 of 3 out.

In 5th ed, in order to contest an objective and win by points, my hormagants needed to make a run move of 1.3 inches to contest and even with their move thru cover giving me 3 dice, I rolled triple 1s (any other roll and i win). The worst part being tying that game made me take 4th in my tourney winning no prizes when if I won I would've taken first place. Why dice gods why?

Edit: the time I rolled 7 ones with kharn assaulting a squad of grey knight termies and killed all but my berserker champion may have been worse

My IG: one of my Manticore. Only one shot for each round of shooting. Least amount of scatter, 6 inches. Didn't kill a single thing.

Or, my storm troopers that had a mishap each round they tried to come in a game. Each mishap was the go back into reserves. Horrible.

I know each of these seems to be against all odds, but, it happened. two different games though.
