I've had a 5 hour game when I faced my friend's green tide army with my gaunt spam nid list at 1850...... We both just wanted it to end by turn 2 lol

It was a bloodbath lol, the nids barely pulled a win because of some frankly heroic gaunt saves in close combat

I have a list in mind that would leave any wargamer a gibbering chaos spawn after playing it.... At 2k tyranids can run 9 tervigons and 9 squads of ten gaunts, and accounting for average spawns in a 6 turn game the average gants used per game is around 430ish (this is if your LGS is sympathetic and let nids have extra force organization since they can't have allies)

Longest game I ever played was towards the end of 5th ed. It was a 2,000 point game that was a 2v2. In theory, that would be no problem, because it should have gone about as fast as a 1,000 point game, because there were more players there to shuffle minis and roll dice.

... except... our two TFGs were playing in the game, and on opposite sides of the board from each other. The game basically went like...

- 10 minutes playing
- 10 minutes of rules dispute
- 10 minutes of playing
- 20 minutes of rules dispute requiring arbitration
- 5 minutes of playing
- 10 minutes of players accusing each other of cheating.

... and all right, bottom of turn 1. Wait, what time is it? Has it been an HOUR and we just got to our first turn?

Needless to say, the other player and myself spend much of that evening having a side conversation while the other two players spat bile at each other. The game came to a conclusion on turn 5 (thank GOD the game didn't go into extra turns) with a half hour fight about "the bases a model came with" that nearly ended because of one person another threatening to quit in table-flipping... well... not rage...

...more really awkward passive aggression...

Running a green tide 2000 pt army.

I have damaged hands, and had recruited a friend to help me move stuff, because the campaign needed an ork horde, and i was the only Ork player. Against my better judgment i agreed (as i don't generally run tide these days).

Friend doesn't show up.

Only one of my hands was working that day, the other being in a cast.

It takes a STOOPID time to move 200 odd orks one handed.

After the first move the other player and TO pitched in

The Viletide: Daemons of Nurgle/Deathguard: 7400 pts
Disclples of the Dragon - Ad Mech - about 2000 pts
GSC - about 2000 Pts
Rhulic Mercs - um...many...
Circle Oroboros - 300 Pts or so
Menoth - 300+ pts

I think the longest 1v1 was a 2000 point game, foot guard on both sides. It lasted about 4 and a half hours. It was also one of the most fun games I recall playing.

I've had team games that have lasted 6+ hours, and even some we're left up overnight and come back to the next day.

Usually I agree. But sometimes a good opponent can make a long game fun. Certainly I don't like apocalypse games with my group - some people take forever to move, and even with a timer they "take their time"

What happened to punctuation, grammar, and spelling?

On topic: I don't actually know what my longest game is. Probably about four and a half hours.

It takes more than an hour to learn, and that's too boring.

We played a 2nd ed game.

2K a side I think.

The actual game took about 6-8 hours, but real life kept getting in the way (work, college etc)

We started the game on a saturday, and finished it roughly 8 days later...Luckily we could leave things set up till we were done

Not really sure. Probably around 3 hours for sub-2k games. I think a C:SM vs IG match I played was about that long.

Heh, great premise for a thread.

The worst games for me at the ones where we have to look up the rules all the time. That said, at the start of 6th edition, I played in a game that went from 11am until 6pm EST.

CSM versus Orks, where the Ork player was trying to actively trying to cheat throughout the game. He was upfront about it too, said he was a devotee of Mork (which was another sneaky trick).

We had to spend time putting together our army lists, figuring out what was / was not legal, understanding the rules for moving through cover gave us fits, working out the new assault rules was hard, we needed to take 2 breaks to get sodas, I was convinced my DP was able to take boon rolls and got called on it, he was claiming his lootas always wounded on a 2+, there were many other rules lookups.

Ended in a draw.

Our first couple of games were brutal. 4+ hours for less than 800 points. This was shortly after 5th was released and we were brand new. So everything required us to bounce through the codexes and rule books.

A typical 2k game takes us around 2 1/2 hours to do. We only look at the rule book for weird stuff now. This weekend we started a 3 way apoc game. 4k points a "side" and got through turn 3 before putting it on hold for a week. DE, CSM/daemons and nids ( including 5 tervigons ) were on the table We had maybe 5 hours of game time. To keep things moving we limited each player turn to 20 minutes. Essentially, once time was called you finished the action you were doing like the hits in a close combat and we moved on. It certainly helped to keep people focused. Slow play by the "enemy" player simply didn't happen due to respect.

Seemed to work well.

once a month me and a buddy put aside a day for a 4k planetstrike game.

It usually runs about 12 hours or so, although a good portion of that time is because of copious amounts of pizza, beer and smoke breaks.

Always super fun games though.

6 hours. I was fighting an ork player who was concerned about casualties vs my imperial guard. It was pre-5th edition codex, but still 5th edition. I still think he is a moron for taking so long.

Ork players that really grok orks don't care how many orks die, or even if they win in the end.

The fun is in the fonging and the shovelling orks of the table by the pile...

@2k, every game I play in takes forever it seems taking up to 4 or so hours. I just prefer to take my time and not rush. Granted I'm a NIDS player and have a ton of Gants to move. I encourage you to kill them so the game will move a little faster.

I think 3 hours was the longest a game has every gone - nothing too crazy. It depends on how much I'm talking with my opponent and if there are any interruptions.

at 2k a side my longest would have to be about 5 1/2-6 ish hours. Beginning of 4th, i was running a horde nid list, had something like 200 gaunts on the table against guard without many pie plates.
