Ill start off by saying Hello.
A few months back I was planning on really getting into 40k but plans fell through and so it didn't happen.
But recently something came up which has gave me the opportunity to get into and give it a real go.
In terms of rules on the table top game I know next to nothing, but I know a little about the fluff of various army's.

Im Interested in Deathguard, Blood Angels and both the Eldar and Dark Eldar.
The trouble I'm having is other than the basic idea of each army, I know pretty much nothing about how each of them play out.
I want something that packs a punch but Isnt gonna get one shotted without much of a chance.
If I was to go into Blood Angels I would not want to go with the Blood Angel theme I would much prefer to go with there codex but
Go with a different colour scheme/fluff not too sure where I would find this though. I also hate the idea of either sitting at the back
of the map gunning them down without moving a muscle, and the idea of just charging mindlessly without any sort of action.

Basically what Im asking is a quick recall of each the armys above in there current state. And how they play out, If anyone even has
a couple of lines to say about one of the armys it would be very much appreciated.

Thanks and enjoy your evening.

Of the 4 armies you mentioned, Eldar is one of the top 3 armies without allies, and is one of the components in 2 of the top 3 armies including allies.

Greebo had spent an irritating two minutes in that box. Technically, a cat locked in a box may be alive or it may be dead. You never know until you look. In fact, the mere act of opening the box will determine the state of the cat, although in this case there were three determinate states the cat could be in: these being Alive, Dead, and Bloody Furious.

Sorry can't help you on how these armies play. I don't play anymore and never used these armies, so wouldn't know.

In the title you ask about price, but I don't see no where about price in your post. I was going to comment, but I am not sure what to mention about price since you didn't mention it in your post.

Agies Grimm:The "Learn to play, bro" mentality is mostly just a way for someone to try to shame you by implying that their metaphorical nerd-wiener is bigger than yours. Which, ironically, I think nerds do even more vehemently than jocks.

Everything is made up and the points don't matter. 40K or Who's Line is it Anyway?

Sorry I forgot about that completely, I have around £500 to spend and was hoping I could get a 1850-2000pt army, aswell as the resources I'd need to paint/glue/model everything also. Could you shed any light?

Do you have the rule book? Do you want to buy brand new or used? Are you going to your FLGS to buy the stuff, or on the internet?

I don't know any web sites for good deals. I have used eBay and bought from my gaming group used minis. Saved lots of money that way. Problem buying used, is you have to accept how they were put together and you can't put your personal touch on it, if they are made.

But you can always repaint them most times, and save lots of money, usually getting 1/2 price or more.

Lots of web stores give 20% off and even FLGS do the same, if you have any close to you that you can buy.

Also what is your play style? Are you a shooty person, or CC person? Want a horde army or a small Elite army? Maybe a combination of all of them? This will also show what army to start off as well.

Do you play for fun, or go to competions? Do you need to win?

Once these are answered, people will be able to say what you should try out.

As for Dark Eldar, I have read they don't fair to well off in 6th editon. Some people say they are still good, while others claim they have suffered greatly from the edition change.

Eldar seem to be top notch right now in power level. Blood Angles seemed to have suffered as well.

I believe Eldar, are an Elite (by that I mean small army) to a mid size army. New codex (will not be outdated) and seem a bit powerful if you really know what you are doing. Not auto win, but can be easily won with the right general.

Hope this helps, and Dakka members will help you as well.

Id say Im a mixture of all you said shooty/CC and In terms of army size whatever fits the playstyle is completely fine with me.
The idea of charging in with some units, while some(Lets say Riflemen) Rifle's fire from a far is really cool.
In terms of winning; I dont really care all that much, as long as the reason Im losing isnt purely because there army is just better than mine.
I also have a %10-20 discount store I am able to use.

Edit: I really love Deathguard, but they literally seem to just be Plagued Marines, and thats as far as the army goes in terms of troop choice.

Not sure what Deathguard is.

If anything, do you like the Eldar? They might be what you looking for, can do everything, new codex and good fluff.

Also new Space Marine codex is out and you can just create your own chapter and do what you like there. Also start small, and ally 2 armies that you like in.
