Are there any stories where the guard beat the nids without getting comepley wasted and depleted of their forces? Iveyewrd smestories from the nid codex and the guard one but not much apart from that .

Dawn of War 2 has a handful of Guardsmen allying with the Spess Mahreens to take on the Hive Mind itself in a suicide mission.

In the Commissar Cain Books, the guards seem to be able to beat the 'Nids without being completely destroyed. Obviously, this is due to his presence, but I'm sure there are other guard out there that have accomplished this feet.

Just takes a good amount of warning, proper amount of forces, and competent leadership. Sadly, when the bugs come, the guard is usually lacking at least one of these.

In the IG codex (I dont have it on me at the moment) but I believe the cadian 9th??? is said to devastate a hive fleet without loss of a single company.

I just want to put it out there that rough riders alone defeated a necron force! Epic i think haha, and yes tank boy is right i had a quick look at the rule book.

I think that it is standard schtick by now, that most IG units are treated as taking heavy casualties in their victories. That is regardless of who the opponent is.

That is under generic leadership. Now, when it comes to telling the stories of Unique characters, they are the exceptions to the mass casualties rule of fluff. Just my 2 Cents here!

A single squad of Catachan 14th won against Orks in Death World, while the squad was nearly wiped to a man, mostly due to the planet, I am pretty sure those are insignificant losses in the regiment as a whole.
