Hello there, Dakka. I have a question for you.
I currently have a squad of 10 Raptors, including an AC with plasma pistol and power sword (A loadout that will make some of you groan I'm sure, but that's not the topic! ) and two meltaguns on the squad.
Now, I recently got my grubby paws on two additional boxes, so I have ten more raptors in the assembly queue. And I wonder, would it be best to add them to the existing squad, taking them up to a very intimidating fifteen and an auxiliary 5 man squad, or make a new 10 man squad?¨
Fast Attack slots are of no concern, as I have little else in the way of Fast Attack currently.
I plan to use them as part of my two-pronge assault strategy, that is, moving forward with CSM blobs and support units while the Raptors put on pressure and go on rampage.
Perhaps another dual-melta squad would be nice? I am thinking combi-melta and power fist on the champion. (Since he would not get the bonus attack anyway.)

Make them another squad. Sure, a blob of 15 is scary, but two blobs of 10 is scarier.

I suggest a claw and melta bombs instead of the fist.

Due to the challenge rule, I would recommend a power weapon or lightning claw over a power fist anyday.

Truth. Lightning claws are raptor-fluffy anyway.
Take a meltabomb, sure, but he's just too likely to die if you give him a fist.

I'll throw my hat in with the meltabomb/claw combo, too.
For 20 points you get a meltabomb and an AP3 shred CC weapon that looks really cool.

But surely you might as well take a fist, seeing as you won't get a bonus attack anyway?

The bonus attack isn't that big a deal. Getting to re-roll to wound is.

single claw almost always better than sword Automatically Appended Next Post: BrotherHaraldus wrote:Hello there, Dakka. I have a question for you.

I would go for 2 plasma or 2 flamers. Melta is nice, but not so many tanks these days. While plas will prevent you from charging if you doubletap, it should be clear that you either want to shoot or want to charge (and thus shooting might put you out of charge range)
I would then paint them up the same as squad 1, so you can run 15 + 2plas or 2flamers and 5+ 2 melta to suicide into a tank. OR you could run 2 10 man squads, you have the flexibility
For the champ, single Lightning claw and combi plas. Really no contest.

Utilizing Careful Highlighting

I like multiple 7-man squads of raptors with 2x meltaguns. Give the champ meltabombs, a lightning claw, and a combi-flamer. Maximum flexibility and lets them assault when needed. 7 so that if you deepstrike, you can keep the champ and an icon bearer alive even if someone drops an on-target small blast on your huddled up dudes.
