i recently got a couple of really cool looking metal models with power firsts. one for assault marines the other for vet foot squad. was thinking sterngaurd.

A) how would one best make a power first work in various lists? since they are for different squads. i have 2 full assault squads and shrike, Dante, astoroth. 2 squads of stern gaurd. all with custom paint scheme so chapter isnt an issue.

B) can one spend to much money on cool models. i always seam to find them =P

There are three main ways to make a character with a power fist (or other unwieldy weapon) effective:

(1) give him a second specialist weapon which can strike at normal initiative (typically a Lightning Claw) and get good at judging when you need to hit first and when you can afford to take a beating in exchange for hitting back harder. This is very expensive for a Sergeant and probably doesn't match your models.

(2) give him wargear which makes sure he can survive in a challenge long enough to get his blows in. This typically means a Storm Shield, which isn't available for sternguard and probably doesn't match your models either.

(3) put an independent character optimised for challenges in the unit and keep the sergeant near the back, so he only piles in when he's ready to go.

option 3 will probabaly be the best. as the stern gaurd has a bolter he is holding out one handed, the Assault marine could be fitted with a shield however. thanks great advice period =)

More like power lasts, right?

According to the rules.
