My goal was to make a an army list that could run as both Normal Imperial Guard or Death Korps Siege Army. Im also just starting out as well, and I take Dark Angels as allies sometimes. I wanted the army to be fluffy, and well rounded at the same time and have lots of room for additions and conversions and the like. Any advice? Some things I should switch out?

-1 command squad with master of the ordnance

-1 QuarterMaster and Retinue

-3 Infantry Squads (2 have commissars)

-3 Autocannon Teams

-3 Mortar Teams

-1 Grenadier squad with heavy flamer(or StormTrooper squad if Im running them as standard IG)

-1 Chimera (for the command squad usually)

-1 Leman Russ Demolisher

-2 Leman Russ Battle Tanks

-3 Basilisks (fielded as Medusa Cannons when playing as a siege list, I love the model)

-1 Thudd Gun

I also plan on adding a Valkyrie mostly for show because I want to paint it red like the Red Baron from world War 1 to feed into the german/ww1 feel of the Death Korps

As for my Dark Angels Allies:

-1 Tactical Squad

-1 Captain (with artificer armor)

-1 Rhino Tank

-1 Venerable Dreadnought

-and Interrogator Chaplain Seraphicus from Dark Vengeance

Well, for one, I am always a big fan or artilery and think a MoO and the basilisks fit nicely together. The LRBTs and basilisks are great for MeQ, and the demolisher is good for termies, however, with only one, it will most likey be destroyed before you can use it (especially since its range is so low), I would probably swap out one of the LRBTs for another demolisher, especially since you have enough AP3 weapons with the basilisks. Hell, I might even drop both and get a manticore (but hey, that is exactly what I use, 3 basilisks, 2 demoilshers, 1 manticore) so those are my reasons, I am sure you have your reasons according to your meta. I wouldn't put a command squad in a chimera so the MoO can fire. I don't see muchuse for the dark angel allies, I would drop them and pick up an ADL or a couple valkaries.

But now this is basically my exact list, hell, it is my exact list if you make those changes, so I am sure you have reasons for your list according to your meta.

The reason I took the Dark Angels allies was more from a fluff standpoint, I loved the idea of fresh looking space marines swooping into battle to aid the war torn Imperial Guard. Also because I somehow obtained the models over time from friends and family for little to no cost, and I ended up painting them very nicely and I love the way they turned out and look great next to my Death Korps. Really settles the feel for the warhammer 40k universe as well in my opinion.

Well, as long as you are enjoying the game, more power to you.

Jealous that Horus is Warmaster

IIRC the death korps fluff in IA12 mentions they are distrusting of Dark Angels due to their lack of openess and secretive behaviour.

if you look at IA12 you can run a pretty reasonable assualt brigade build with what you have with the extra rules available making grenadiers troops and gaining Assault 2 las guns and Move through cover as orders upgrades.

The idea of WW1 fluff gives me visions of heavy gun lines pounding the enemy or advancing into the smoke on No Mans Land. Both lists available allow you to do both

If you look at Centaurs as potential small elite team delivery systems they can work. Fast vehicles that the engineers (PG/MG/MB/HF and Gas grenades) can assault out of and pop a tank with a follow up Gas Grenade, HF template

if a dolphin will jump out of water for fish, just imagine what it would do for chips?
