Hey everyone,
I got this interesting idea from a friend of mine, though neither of us use SM of any kind. If you deepstrike drop pod(s) that land on an enemy unit, would it really make sense to mishap? Couldn't this massive projectile just be cleverly used to demolish some object on the surface? So we thought of something *roughly* like this:
1. Drop pods that land on enemy units do not mishap; reposition enemy models as close as possible to their original positions around the pod.
2. If the pod lands on a vehicle, the enemy vehicle takes a S8 (maybe 9) AP- hit, and the drop pod loses 2 hp. Passengers inside the pod take a S4 AP- hit per model (Dreadnoughts suffer 1 HP)
3. If the pod lands on opposing models with wounds, all enemy models within 3 or 4" take a single S4 AP5 hit. Drop pod suffers 1 HP, and passengers take hits as described above.
4. Using this rule on enemies in cover additionally cause passengers to be Pinned (Stunned for dreadnought).
Mind that this could be done intentionally or accidentally if the pod scatters. Any thoughts or ways to make this more balanced?

P.S. What about dropping a Necron Monolith?

Difficult, as a burning meteor from space landing on you wouls give more than a migraine... technically it should cause id, though that's unfair to opponents.

As much as I'd like to see something like this in play, it's balanced as it is, otherwise few would survive past turn 2 at most.

It is interesting and I agree it makes more sense then majority of the mishaps. The problem I can think of is 35 points for a potential auto str 8 or str 9 (for some reason str 9 feels right) hit on a vehicle that I would say not be able to receive a cover save can be really powerful.

Look at it this way; with the way drop pods and deep striking works if you take 3 for example, 2 of them come in on your first turn. If you're going first turn that's a possible two enemy vehicle auto hits if you don't scatter or your distance is short.

Then on top of that the unit in the drop pod will probably take out what you intended.

I do like it all honesty I just see it as really good for more then it needs to be.

Yeah...it's kinda like that.

It also raises the question of what happens if that vehicle can still move after the hit. Does the drop pod just travel around on top of it? If so does it block any hatches? What if the vehicles open topped as surely it'd id the occupants too?

As dat guy says, I like and wish it could be played that way though ultimately I can't help but think it'd be just too powerful but also raise too many subsequent questions

As for the OP-ness, I would have suggested an optional upgrade to allow the pods to do this at all.

As for the general strangeness fluff-wise, I cannot really counter that at all. This may need to be put away for a little while until someone can revolutionize the drop-pod process (Drop pods: now in disposable!)
