For a total of 30 points for the two weapons? If not, why would the example of a Crisis suit being able to purchase three individual (non-twin linked) weapons of the same kind even pop up in the Tau FAQ?

My understanding is the second points cost (20) is for the two plasma rifles purchased as a single twin-linked weapon counting as 2 choices from that list.

And can a battlesuit that has a twin-linked weapon and different weapon fire both at the same time?

You've referenced the very FAQ you need. A twin-linked weapon is still only one weapon when it's fired (even though it takes up two hardpoints).

The multi-tracker allows you to fire two weapons, which may be a twin-linked gun and a normal gun, they may even be the same type (Plasma Rifles, for example).

Make sure your opponent is aware of what your suits weapons are before the game.

You don't need to buy a twin linked weapon in order to get 2 plasma rifles.

You may purchase a twin linked weapon taking 2 hardpoints, but you could also buy 2 separate plasma rifles that fire separately.

If you buy 2 plasma rifles that are separate weapons, then you pay the plasma rifle price twice.

If you buy a twin-linked, then you pay the second price (twin linked price) listed in the codex.

roger that. Also, where does it say that firing a twin-linked weapon counts as firing 2 guns?

It doesn't because it's not.

Hmm must be a remnant of the old codex hangover then.

So I can kit a crisis suit out with a TL-Fusion Blaster and a Plasmarifle for 35 points and fire both thanks to multi-tracker that the xv-8 suits come with?

Well, the upgrades will cost 35 points. You still have to pay the base cost for the crisis suit. But it sounds like you've got the idea.

Yes. And the FB will be twin linked.

I think the confusion is coming from the hardpoints.

An XV-8 has 3 hard points. Two weapons take up two hardpoints, and is two weapons for shooting. A twin linked weapon takes up two hard points, but is only one weapon for shooting.

It's worded a little funny this edition.

Thanks. It wasnt this way in the old Tau codex though, was it? Because as I remember recalling you could either put 2 different weapons on your suit and fire them both (or take 3 different weapons and only fire 2), or take two weapons of one kind and they would become 1 tl-weapon that counted as firing 2 weapons.

Edit: yeah. page 25 of the old Tau codex: "...No model can pick the same item twice" and "...No model may carry three of the same weapons system" So you couldnt take 2 plasma rifles and you also couldnt take a tl-plasma rifle and a plasma rifle.

Thats why I got confused when making the transition to the new Tau codex.

Thankfully both these restrictions are gone in the new codex, making Crisis suits that much more awesome.
