What scale from 1 to 10?

7. its cool but not my idea of what a Tau ADL should be.

I think a Tau Aegis should resemble modified Shield Drones and transparent plasticard myself. It cool and better than an imperial Aegis, that is for sure.

It doesn't look very Tau to me - resembled something out of halo. Take away the paint job and there isn't much similarity here.

I think Chapterhouse has race-specific forward defenses in the works. Necron and Tau stuff specifically, and the Tau stuff looks really sweet . . .

I like both sets shown. Personally, I think modelers should be careful to maintain the measurements and heights along with shapes to remain consistent to avoid powergaming through modeling for advantage. The ones listed don't appear to do that and I would vote for the 2nd set only because the measurements appear more consistent.
One of our local gamers made a very nice necron one with the "guns" being conversions that included necron bodies.

I think you'd be given fair license to smack anyone who suggests that.

Marneus Calgar is referred to as "one of the Imperium's greatest tacticians" and he treats the Codex like it's the War Bible. If the Codex is garbage, then how bad is everyone else?

To me I think most "tau aegis equivalents" look kind of wrong. In the fluff Tau don't even believe in static defenses. Any kind of defensive line they rigged up would have to be portable, something they can slap down in support of a hunting cadre when they expect to come under heavy firepower. I love the idea of hopped up shield drones linked together.

Yes I know fluff doesn't equal rules, but when you can make a model that both fits the fluff and works with the rules it's super awesome.

I dig it. Looks pretty Tau-y to me. The rounded edges and grooves convey the same kind of aesthetic, at least to my eye.

its not so much that they don't believe in static defenses, its that they don't believe in the emotional attachment to a location and "holding this ground for our honor!".

If they need and can leave a position, they do.
They will still occupy locations that have strategic value, especially if doing so harasses or delays an oncoming enemy.
Putting up a portable defense is just part of that.
They just won't hold that to the last man....which is silly.

There are lots of examples in the taros campaign for example of the occupying locations to impede the imperial advance.....they will retreat when they need to (again as opposed to "here we die in the name of the emperor!" but its not like they won't bother to defend or fortify an area (they do build bases, compounds, hangars etc.).

Now, I do 100% agree, that I think their defense lines should look more like....portable devices of some kind. Where you state its nice when models match fluff.
Similar to portable construction barriers (but more high tech).

I was working on a design for a tau line, that look like "pop open" barricades that could easily be transported by a crisis team, or off loaded from a manta.
Think of something the size of say a folding chair (made out of lightweight alloys and fiber composites) and a bunch of them "installed" next to one another to make a barrier.

the plasma turret will do nicely as an icarus, and the other two both convince me of quadgun.

but fw stuff (especially acquiring both weapon options) costs a truckload of money

It doesn't have to block LOS to grant cover, just obscure it. And since it's not completely transparent, it does that.

Although exactly how you judge 25% obscurity due to partial transparency, I'm not sure...
