I remember my last trip to LA. It was February and when I left the East coast it was 31 F. When I landed in Orance County it was 66 F. I was driving around with my windows down and my sleeves rolled up. Meanwhile the residents were all crying about how freezing cold it was and were all bundled up in coats, sweaters and sweatshirts galore. Had me laughing quite a bit since I had actually left real freezing temps behind in the east. I sat on the beach each day watching the sunset with no coat while the people around me looked like they were in the arctic.
Of course temps are all relative as I have a friend in Alaska who comments in early spring how it is getting warmer since it is only -20 F.

Yeah, this.
I live in texas, but work in Minnesota (yeah, its a weird life).
I remember one time when it was in the 40s in texas, and we thought we were cold....then, I come to MN, and the HIGH was 7.
The high.
Isn't there some rule that says you can't have a single digit number as a high?.

If that is a problem for you I suggest you avoid Alaska in the winter time where plenty of places have a high that is a nasty negative number. You know it is cold when the *high* is -30 F...hahahaha

thats what we get in regina most of the winter... a high of -20c low of -40 windchill makes it -35 and -50 respectivly... and oh yea, expect that wind to gust up to 70kph, WHILE its snowing so bad you cant see 5 feet in front of you. not that it matters... the snow is usually 6 feet high ANYWAY.

O Canada!...
I live in southern Ontario, and while that isn't the norm, it's still pretty cold and snowy compared to some of what I've read. I play at my only opponent's house, and his basement has been less than warm. I can only imagine it getting colder as winter progresses.
Then again, my room tends to be cold as feth.

I have room enough to run 5 tables in my garage. We'll be doing it on Friday. Should be a good time.

Parts of Los Angeles have had near freezing temps in the morning AM. A wee bit of frost on the car's roof for 4 days in a row!
Of course, that is not MN nor Alaska nor Canada silly. still, when you are used to 60s and 70s temps, anything below 40
...
Well.

The only problem with having your gaming area in a cold location is that it is really bad for any models stored there. Other than that I love playing at home and really have no desire to play at a store.

We fire up the grill at my place and have that going right beside the table with Salmon, steaks, kilbasa, and skewered veggies happening.
People take turns minding the food until a turn or two in, when we break for food.
Best gaming sessions ever.

Could you elaborate on why cold is bad for models?

It can make the glue joins brittle and pop apart, I imagine.

Exactly. The freezing temperatures are hell on glue joints. Bad for plastic worse for metal. Big models like buildings and such have even less of a chance. We always play in a garage and I have been telling our host that he needs to store the terrain inside for this exact reason. He did not listen and so every time we play a game a piece of the terrain breaks off. Luckily It has not been a cold winter. But the colder that it gets the worse it will be for our poor terrain.

I have an 832 sq ft unheated, uninsulated garage, and after an hour of this thing running it's 80 degrees in there, even when it's 15 outside. It costs about $1.20 in propane an hour to run. I recommend it, or any of its big brothers.
