I expect a return to the status quo next episode. That said, this was one of the Family Guy episodes I actually liked. The message of the episode is touching if nothing else. That'll do Family Guy. That'll do.
Speaking of spoilers, you might want to add some filler text before your first post. The spoilered text still shows in the scroll over text on the main page.
“We may observe that the government in a civilized country is much more expensive than in a barbarous one; and when we say that one government is more expensive than another, it is the same as if we said that that one country is farther advanced in improvement than another. To say that the government is expensive and the people not oppressed is to say that the people are rich.”
Adam Smith, who must have been some kind of leftie or something.
Meh, can't really get into Family Guy anymore they don't even seem to be able to tell there own jokes all they do is reference other things like Pater Griffin might say something reminds him of The Terminator and then they jump to a scene from The Terminator.
My theory is that it was an intentional attempt to alienate the fanbase. Seth McFarlane clearly isn't into the project anymore and would like to walk away but while it's still fairly popular he is unable to.

They had been saying for some time they were going to kill off a main character, so I don't think they are going to go back to status quo that quickly, but you never know. It doesn't surprise me really, as Seth is juggling at least 4 shows* and another movie so this is one less thing he has to do.
*American Dad, Family Guy, The Flinstones (in production), and Cosmos (in production).
Amidst the mists and coldest frosts he thrusts his fists against the posts and still insists he sees the ghosts.
I havn't cared for the show in years. When they stopped trying to be funny, and went strait for shock value, it just became to much. I mean South Park is meant to be vulgar, and I'm fine with that, Family Guy was edgy but not insulting.
Well...you all do know...the guy that does the voice of Brain died in real life right?

On a related note, it'll be interesting to see how the show goes on. I think this is a good change for the show just because it needed to be refreshed. I'll miss brian but its not the end of the world. Authors have kinda conditioned me to lose good characters anyhow, like G R R Martin's song of ice and fire and Dan Abnett's gaunts ghosts series.

I've never found Family Guy insulting. In saying that the one thing I did find in very poor taste was the "Down Syndrome Girl" song. They say that they mock the disabled because it's an equal opportunities comedy, and that everybody is fair game but a few of the lyrics are just cheap laughs at people with a significant disability. Ricky Gervais is a better example of macking disabled jokes, he is more in line with "equal opportunites" comedy than Family Guy. Lost a bit of respect for Seth that day.
TBH, I found the episode wasn't a particularly good one but it was always going to be Brain. It was going to be one of McFarlanes' Griffins as he has more than one and Brain is the most disposable out of Stewie, Peter and Brain: which is a pity as the whole Stewie & Brian relationship was usually a high point in each episode
Currently debating whether to study for my exams or paint some Deathwing
Stopped watching family guy after about season 6-7, it went to hell after that, lost all the humor and tried to fill the void with pop culture references, shock value and the occasional 7 minute song.
They kinda forgot that a joke still has to be funny, even if it is just a reference to something or OTT obscene.
They should kill off Peter if they want to kill a character, if you want to screw with things you might as well do it properly.
Family Guy is definitely getting worse with each passing season now, I really only watch it when I'm bored or procrastinating from uni.
But theory is that instead the episodes not being linked (bar that awful chicken fight scene that lasts for 5 minutes at a time) this series will be from now on, with Stewie trying to remake the time machine and at the end of the series bring him back to life via that
Slaanesh: "Hey guys we're back! We brought presents. And yes, they ARE sexually suggestive"
Tzeentch: "So did we miss anything while we were away"
Khorne and Nurgle trade a shifty glance
Tzeentch: "Hey! Whos been touching my stuff! Where did my Old World go?!"
Khorne and Nurgle wander off whistling.
