Well the Lexicanum entry says he was posthumously declared a heretic, so unless some one has the actual codex to hand I'll just go on the assumption he was let out

I don't think dark eldar will just let him out

It's just left up to imagination. Maybe they took him out on a raid with a bunch of other captives to be used as meat shields and managed to slip away.

I wouldn't disregard the possibility that he made the whole thing up though.

As he could have been declared a Heretic for seeing Dark Eldar to begin with with prescedence being set within the Imperium of killing those who find out things that are unwanted....he could have escaped during a raid.

My vote is that he fell to Chaos during his capture and torture, and the Dark Eldar really want little to do with actual Chaos followers or the like.

Why wouldn't the Dark Eldar let him escape? They had already extracted more then enough pain from him, so they let him escape to re-tell his story. The Dark Eldar are a vain race who would love nothing more then to be vilified and have horror stories told about them, letting a single slave escape to re-tell his horror seems like a very Dark Eldar thing to do.

He puts his escape down to something miraculous, a reward from the Emperor for his undying faith. How he escaped is not mentioned and is quite a feat for a man with no eyes.

Maybe the dark eldar will let him escape but the dark eldar may consider to let more escape and so the imperium will believe them

I dont think the DE want people to know they exist or to fear them. THey like hiding in the webway unseen.


But this might be a new form of torture. After doing as much sick depraved things to his body as it could stand they let him go, only for him to find that the warmth of humanity was no longer his to bask in. He was interrogated by the inquisition and then declared a heretic. Some people can stand any amount of torture from their enemy, but they cave in dispair when the same comes from their friends.

In the old pamphlet 3rd edition Dark Eldar Codex, at the very back there was a story about a human village that was about to suffer a Dark Eldar raid. One of the villagers had been the survivor of another such raid a generation ago, and his tales of his experiences heightened the anxiety and fear of the villagers, and he died of old age right before the new raid. The POV narrator of that novel speculated whether the old man had been deliberately left alive, perhaps even granted long life, in order to ensure the next generation would have fear running through them when the Dark Eldar returned.

Remember that the Dark Eldar are about causing pain and suffering, and that can amount to more than just physical torture. Mental anguish and having prey populations already fear you could perhaps heighten the flavor or nutrition the Dark Eldar get when they finally come for their prey, and it may also soften up resistance. The old "Torturer's Tale" by Gav Thorpe even had Vect temporarily relent in physical torture of a human captive and even help give him a chair and drink so that the human could focus on Vect telling him a half complete tale about the Dark Eldar's origins and implications about Vect's own origins, knowing that the urge to hear the rest would cause mental suffering to the human prisoner.

Given that above, it is quite possible the Dark Eldar deliberately let someone escape so as to spread tales of their realm.

no if he fell to chaos, was a servent of chaos, they would have killed him. They fear(and hate) she who thirsts above all else and any one in her or her companions service would be killed.

He probably slipped out after the Pariah tore a hole in the webway to rescue Ephrael Stern from her stint masquerading as a Succubus.

Dark eldar is always very mean and cruel
