I've had the following error message pop up 5 or 6 times this Sunday

java.util.NoSuchElementException: Timeout waiting for idle object

as far as I can tell it's always after clicking on First Unread in News and Rumours threads , but not a specific thread and it's a rare event (less than 1 in 10 clicks do it)

it's no major hardship but since it's showed up as you're bug fixing after introducing the player finder I thought I'd let you know

the first few were on IE11, but I switched to chrome eventually and it has happened once on that

I got this a few times while using Firefox. I just came back and reloaded the page in 10 minutes time, and it worked again.

Yeah this is an ongoing bug where there are not enough DB connections available as I've managed to make a connection leak somewhere :( It will take me some time to debug and the site will be a bit unstable between now and then. As you have noticed, it mainly affects the forums and login process.

Aha, I was wondering if it was just me. No new threads for about an hour or so. Thanks, Lego!

It seemed to completely kill the site this afternoon, but since it's back up I guess you're on top of it

fingers crossed you've found and removed the leak

I've got some workarounds in place now that might at least delay the failures to be more manageable by me. I've also got some more logging in place to help track down the problem. This is actually a positive problem as it has been a bug that has haunted the site for quite some time, but recent changes have finally pinpointed it to a specific 30 lines of code which I can trace back from. Apologies to all for any inconvenience as I squash this long term bug!

Hey legoburner, it keeps telling me your site is down for maintenance on certain forms, and threads, even though its obvious the site is working properly. I erased my cache history several times over a 12 hour period. So I gave up and decided to use my IPAD, and then my Iphone but I keep getting the same message. I've also hit ctrl and refresh to no avail.

Please help.

That's just where I reset it a couple of times and it cached on your system. Simply press ctrl and refresh at the same time or clear your browser cache and it will sort itself out.

Like i said I have cleared my broswer cache, and hit ctrl and refresh several times since you've posted, I'm still getting the "Dakka is down for maintenance" screen.

I'm using firefox if that helps.

Thanks

It could be that your ISP is using a proxy server that has cached those pages. I restarted the site about 6 times over a 12 hour period, so it could just be bad luck that you kept viewing mid-restart. Try clearing cache and restarting browser once more and see how that goes?

Cleared my cache several times but still no dice. How long does it normally take for it clear out on its own?

Also is there a time you would recommend for me to stay away from Dakka so I can dodge server maint?

If it is a caching proxy server at your ISP then it is out of your control unfortunately. You can try shift-refresh and ctrl-refresh but beyond that you'd just have to wait for the timeout which could be anything set by your ISP unfortunately. I try to avoid doing releases when many people are using the site but it is unavoidable in cases of glitches like this one was.
