New strategy game currently in the works at firm's new mobile division

A new partnership has been signed between Eutechnyx and Games Workshop that will see the former developer a new Warhammer title for PC and mobile platforms.

The game, entitled Storm of Vengeance, is described as a "lane strategy" title, and is set in the popular futuristic universe of Warhammer 40,000. Players will be tasked with defending a planet with just 100 Dark Angel Space Marines.

It is being developed by the firm's new mobile division and will be released in the first quarter of 2014. It follows the success of Eutechnyx's strategy game Ninja Cats vs Samurai Dogs.

"Storm of Vengeance sees Eutechnyx working with one of the most established brands in gaming," said Eutechnyx CEO Darren Jobling.

"I am very excited that our new partnership with Games Workshop will allow us to bring the world of Warhammer 40,000 to dedicated fans around the world via our new mobile division."

So what's a "lame strategy" game?

Well... if they did something called samurai dogs vs ninja cats, nothing can go wrong, right? I mean its not like I'd prefer to buy a 40k MMO or Space Marine 2 game on my console. /sarcasm. Well... at least they're following the 40k fluff and news of a lame sounding dark angel game follows the Space Magic Wolves the Gathering game for the same platforms.

So basically a tower defense game? Weak. I'll echo HBMC's point. I like that GW's doing videogames, but that they're almost all mobile/tablet titles with low budgets is pretty weak.

Funny enough, I was playing some budget (relatively speaking) tower defense games this weekend and thinking what-ifs about a WH40k theme for one.

Kingdom Rush was good, imo. The fiancee is currently addicted to the sequel, Kingdom Rush Frontiers, and my ID code works for both... so a 5$ very well spent to get some painting time in exchange.

"lane strategy" sounds more like a DOTA clone than a tower defence game. After all, "tower defence" is an established genre name.

Then again, it's supposed to be mobile...

Edit: Just realized those guys made Ride to Hell: Retribution. Abandon all hope.

I can honestly say that I've spent more time on Kingdom Rush and Kingdom Rush: Frontiers than I have on any other online game. Soooo much fun. If they got the same guys to do this new DA game it could be pretty sweet.

Lane strategy can either be tower def or moba...but it being mobile it's probably a tower defense.

Also, as HMV said, these guys made RIDE TO HELL.

Pretty mediocre, yes. (So far, this is the only one that has been released that I know of all the slew of new titles announced lately).

Ding! This just in! A score of 6/10 in the video games industry means the game is poor, unless the reviewer is Angry Joe.

Now to be fair - a 58 average is almost a D minus. So maybe other people have different standards of good ...

Less sarcastically - I used the word "mediocre" charitably. I was trying to take into account that some things are subjective, and that not all the reviews said it was total crap.

A 6 /10 to me says "slightly above average"

Going to agree with Alpharius, when it comes to games it's very rare that if it's scored lower than 60-70% it'll be worth the effort and money (exceptions being those games everyone seems to hate but were actually pretty fun like Lost Planet). 60-70%= below average, 80%= maybe keep an eye out for it on sale for me.

Ah yes, the old 4 point scale.

7 = bad.
8 = ok.
9 = good.
10 = great.

There are no other numbers!!!

This is why Angry Joe is one of the only revewiers I trust.

Space Hulk was pretty crap, and this was a game I desperately wanted to like.

I generally have enjoyed the previous ventures of expanding the 40K universe into gaming, especially Dawn of War, but not a single one of the titles currently in development actually look like a particularly good game. They all look like make-a-quick-buck cash ins - Space Wolf doesn't look like it's going to be any better than Space Hulk was.

GW would be wise to remember how the avalanche of crapware titles worked out for the Wii when it came out, as well as how loose control over their IP worked for Marvel 20 years ago or so.

Company X pays GW $A for the license.

Company X goes on to make a shovelware piece of tat that no one plays.

GW keeps Company X's money.

Rinse repeat with Company Y, and then Company Z, and then...

Minimal effort, maximum (short-term) profit. GW's MO in a nutshell really.
