To be honest it takes a lot of time and effort, all the panels need to be spray painted first then the bits to be painted different need to be masked off with low tack decorators tape, cover the panel and use a sharp knife to cut out the bits you need to paint which means you can get the pieces spayed In bulk with the colour of your choice.

The other bits like the metal were masked off in the same way but painted black, drybrushed silver/iron, use a sponge to dab on layers of light and dark brown followed by a bit of bright orange then dry brush again in silver/iron, the sponge dabbing should add a slight bit of texture to the plastic and when its drybrushed againshould make it look rusty and uneven.

hope that helps, cant wait to see your results

Some help please fellas- which bits should be painted in bone colours for my Stage 1? Most of it looks fairly boney to me but I don't want it to look too out of place with the rest of my strike force? See previous post

Great work, JaydeeOT. I'll have to file it deep in my memory banks for when I finally get a chance to paint my own terrain.

@AoV, the best I can do is show you what I did with mine:

There's a lot of armor, but there's a lot of area that can be construed as skin or muscle instead. My choice was what seemed the most reasonable mix to me at the time.

Hey AOV, The stage 1 does look a bit complicated up close, sections that look like they should be bone seem to merge with other bits that should be muscle or squidgy bits with no clear definition so I would suggest a bit of wet blending from one colour to another, just try to imagine which bits would be in constant motion to remain soft and which bits would become solid, Grimdorks stage 1 is a great example of this.

And pretty much the same direction for mine

Yeah, Jaydee makes a good point about the flexible bits being your guide. I forgot how much I liked that Plaguelord, it's fancy.

Thanks for the help, that does sound time consuming, but the results are really nice.

AoV, for my S1 I did something similar to what's suggested above, with the blending between the flesh and bone if in doubt. I figure the bone areas had actually pushed through the skin from the inside (hope no one's just eaten ) so there would be 'almost through' bits where I blended it. Hope that helps.

Cheers guys. Will be having another look at it at the weekend. Currently, I've just done an all over Incubi Darkness basecoat and a Coelia Greenshade wash on it. Thinking about it, for the spikey bone potrusions I'll tip them with a bone colour to make it look like the rest is beneath the flesh similar to DE Grotesque gnarlskin.

looking forward to the finished result, If your going to make the bone look like its under the skin I would drybrush it in a slightly lighter tone than the flesh itself then keep adding layers of washes until it looks a uniform colour all over, that should give it an "under the skin" look then just highlight the tips of the protrusions and maybe add a few little blood trails

I imagine it's even more surprising when a Plague Teraton teleports lol.

Really liking the paint job!

Green and white armor is a good look for him, JaydeeOT, and I think the white armor in particular helps set off the natural bone coloring of his horns and tail spikes. The detailed reptilian eyes are fantastic, too; looks like you painted a mean-looking vertical pupil inside his iris.

I agree, the Teraton takes forever - and all I've done so far is clean and assemble him. On the other hand, it's hard to regret putting in the time when the end result is that good. Without models like this one to remind me why I love doing this, I'd get out of this expensive, time-consuming hobby pretty quick.

cheers guys, I wasnt too sure about the colour scheme at first but when the gold went on the white and green suddenly looked good, its nice to get some reassurance.

I dont know if anybody else feels the same but I kinda think the terraton model is unbalanced, the gauntlet guns look a bit to big and make the whole thing look top heavy. Im tempted to remove his right hand claw and replace it with some kind of power shield

Hmm, I could have sworn I saw a converted Dozer terraton MVP with what I think was one of the KoW ogre swords for a weapon. Not sure if it would look good on the DZ terraton or not though.

Keep an eye out on the Mantic site, my Avenger Enforcers are going to be getting shown off soon!! I brought them to an event and handed them to the Rep, he loved them and wants to put them up for display. Thanks guys, for encouraging this thread (I told him about its existence), keeping it going, and generally just keeping ideas flowing between us all. I know I wouldn't have started the X-Men Rebs unless you guys had requested them. So thank you for pushing me, they'll be going up on site as well.

Reality is a nice place to visit, but I'd hate to live there.

Yeah man, great work!! your Marvel inspired conversions are fun, creative and deserve to be shown off. Got any ideas for the next batch? I was thinking that the enforcer commander with his helmet on looks like a very well built conqueror of Latveria

Getting close, oh so very close to being done with the first wave. I'll have to pull them out of the bookcase to get lighting for a better group shot.

Just the Sorak and Yndij to go...and yes, the Teraton is pink (Reaper brains pink base).

very nice indeed, you've been really busy triple9 I like the display too, I might have to do something similar although saying that I haven't even started the enforcers or marauders yet and I've still got a mountain load of scenery to paint, at this rate I'm going to be still working on this lot until next year.

Thanks Guys. I'm lucky in that I often work from home and pick up a brush when I need to clear my head for 5 minutes. Finished up the Sorak yesterday and the 3 Yndij are on the bench mostly finished. Should be completely done all the Deadzone minis I received by tomorrow.

Agreed - I particularly like your solution for mounting the drones without using the plastic stands, which I'm not fond of. I was planning on looking into transparent flying stands, but now wire is another good idea to consider.

Something must've gone wrong in the post processing for that last set. The colours used on the green building were the same as my fortress set too:
