SPARTA

I'm a new 40 k player, so naturally I went for space marines. Everyone else at my club seems to be more point efficient. I know part of it is my bad tactics, but according to others I should get a better army.

Please could someone post an effective 600 point space marine army list, thanks in advance (It needs to have 1 ha and 2 troop choices, but just suggestions of good troops I will be grateful for)

What is in my current army

HQ
Captain w/ power sword

Troops
1 tact squad
1combat squad
1 scout squad w/ hellfire heavy bolter (hoping to get sniper rifles)

Transport
Rhino /w storm bolter

Elite
Dreadnaught

This was made using 5th ed points so please do point out any point changes

Have you looked at the threads in this forum?

There is no easy button on Marines, and they really are pretty effective. You want IF that means you want bolters. and possibly Pedro so you can get elite scoring bolters. Centurions seem to be a staple in IF lists.

for 600 points I would do something like this:

Librarian 65
-Force Sword, Biomancy

Dreadnought 110
-Multi Melta & Heavy Flamer

(10) Tactical Squad 215
-Plasmagun, Combi-Plasma, Missile Launcher, Rhino

(5) Tactical Squad 130
-Plasmagun, Combi-Plasma, Rhino

(5) Scout Squad 80
-Sniper Rifles, Camo Cloaks, Missile Launcher

TOTAL: 600

Captains are not a very efficient HQ choice, especially at low-point games. The Librarian can become a CC monster with powers from Biomancy, and gets his Force Sword for free.

The 10-man Tactical Squad should split up using Combat Squads, leaving 4 Marines and the Missile Launcher behind. You now have 2 forward scoring units (5-man Tac squads with Plasma in Rhinos) and 2 rear scoring units (5 scouts with a Missile and 5 Marines with a Missile). The Librarian should join on of the forward Tactical Squads in the Rhino.

Most points inefficiencies are caused by poor wargear and HQ choices. The list I have posted is not the absolute best 600 point list, but it is quite a bit more efficient than your current list. I hope this helps!

Now we have some were to start

Biggest issue you are going to have is popping armor. Only the dread and the Tac. Missile can pen. armor, making the dread a prioirty target to go away. After that enemy transports are going to keep the one tac squad from moving or be ignored the rest of the game. I would consider swapping the dread, captain and combat squad for Pedro, melta sternguard and a drop pod. Put th eMelta were you needed it turn one, got a squad of scoring bolters already in the back field for line breaker, and Kantor is a solid CC character.

Sniper scouts are good, but with IF CT I think staying with the bolters and hvy bolter make a bit more sense at 600pts.
