So there is a lot of hate toward the dreadknight and riptides (and not just because of the baby carrier look to the dreadknight) due to there classification as monstrous creature, I purpose a new classification, Monstrous Walker (That name might need work though), any ideas for balancing them with his new class?

Not opposed to the idea, but I have no idea what rules would be involved. Gotta decide, do they have an AV? Then they are vehicles/walkers and are almost useless.. Otherwise they might as well be Monsterous creatures if they have a toughness value.

I'm thinking like walkers but more lumbering, kinda like how termies can't preform sweeping advances compared to normal units. but definitely have AVs, (maybe really poor front armor on the dreadknight )

Models with 3 or more wounds should have a wounded table much like vehicles have a damage table.
Everytime such a model suffers its 3rd or more wounds roll a d6 [dont bother rolling for models with 3 wounds, they are dead now]
1,2 - No effect
3 - Broken Bone [the model has -1BS, -1 WS, -1 I to a minimum of 1 for any value for the remained of the game]
4 - Bleeding out [put a bleeding counter next to model, at the start of each turn roll a d6. On the roll of a 1 the model suffers another wound with no saves of any kind. No rerolls of any kind are allowed, the marker remains in play until the model is removed from play]
5- Crippled [Model moves at half speed, and can no longer make sweeping advances. This effects flight speed as well.]
6- Head Wound [The model is stunned until the end of the next turn, and count as WS1, BS1, I 1,and A 1. The model may only make snapshots if it is capable of shooting]

That could work but replace bleed out with head wound and make 6-critical wound-instant death

No. I actually really, really do not like AV. If you're going to use a toughness system, use it. Why is AV 11 immune to S3 and 4, yet Terminator armor, which is generally designed to be a walking tank (and survive the interior of a plasma generator), only a 2+ save? You mean to tell me that lasguns can pierce through several inches of ceramite? Why can't they do that on tanks? If you're going via "it randomly hit a delicate piece of armor" then the same can apply to tanks.
So no. They do not need to be reclassified because they are fine as they are.

They used to have "lucky glancing hits" for that purpose, but they aren't in the rules anymore (too bad as well, I liked oneshotting russes with firewarriors).

Give them like in Battle a "Large target status", models shooting at a model with the Large target rule gets the Preffered ennemy rule Vs that Target.
Give that Rule to anything with a T6 or/and W4 or higher.

There is already a perfectly suitable sub-type for both these models, one that doesn't require any special FAQs or any tweaking. They are called Walkers, and if anyone has a good argument as to why this doesn't make sense I'd love to hear it.
Also, Defiler? That counts as a Walker and those things are just fine, even though to look at it you'd think the Defiler deserved the MC classification way more than the Riptide. If AV is such a big issue then make the AV the same all around, I mean these Tau are supposed to be expert technicians right?
And Termies? Well, there is a huge difference between an infantryman and a tank no matter how you cut it. A lascannon cuts right through termie armour does it not? Also cuts right through most tank armour too. Seems fine to me. What doesn't seem fine is that the Tau get to have this nigh invincible unit for almost no reason at all. A secret government project? That every single Tau army on the face of the planet has? And the reason the Tau have such advanced technology? They're really really good with technology! Wait, what? The bloody Emprah hisself is still stuck pushing around Rhinos that are older than he is, he hasn't had anyone design anything new in the last oh lets say, 5000 years, but he and his are what stands between Humanity and utter destruction?
Sounds to me like the 42 millennium will have us all enslaved for the greater good, but maybe that's the plan... After all the Space Marines have been suckling at the teat since the 80s, maybe it's time GW found another house-boy.

Like McNinja stated, AV of 12 and such are immune to small firarms, and anything that have a rule to Wound easier, like Venom, Fleshbane or Siper rifles are useless against it.

But if AV 12 is immune to small arms fire then doesn't the classification make sense? I find the idea that I can theoretically kill a RT with a bolt pistol to be a bit silly as well. And besides, who said the darned thing should be AV 12 anyways, I was thinking 11's all around, maybe keep the 5 hull points?
But we can talk til we're blue in the face about it and it will still always be a MC. Next year we'll all be complaining about some other OP model...
