So I have seen a lot of threads complaining about fluff, so here is one where you just post some of your favorite moments and quotes! show the fluff writers some love!

As for codex fluff, Codex: Black Legion has been a pleasant surprise. After Codex: Chaos Space Marines, I was expecting a rather mundane tale of infighting, powerlust and survival. And yes, it has all the mandatory infighting and power struggles, but set against a backdrop of surreal, hallucinatory landscapes. Abbadon's quests inside the Eye of Terror echo those of a legendary hero conquering a realm where only gods tread.

In a sense, Codex: Black Legion achieves something that had been escaping GW's treatment of Chaos Space Marines so far, investing them with an aura of awe and wonder not unlike the romanticised stories of pirates had people rooting for what were basically petty criminals. Sure, Chaos Space Marines are ruthless killers that'd gladly skin you alive and burn your world to cinders... but oh, the things they've done, the wonders they've seen...

That is All.

I wonder why it's so hard for authors/artists to get Horus' weapons consistent.

Artistic license I think.

The biggest wtf moment for me was in the book betrayer, when angron finally breaks down and explains "why", anyone who could give angron character and emotional resonance is a bloody good writer.

Artistic licence is what allows people to not be consistent. That doesn't explain why people choose to be inconsistent, though. "I'm going to give Horus an axe!" Why.

Anyway, the most awesome fluff moment for me is probably when Muril fights Cuu in Straight Silver.

Dunno why. The fight was less than a page, happened mostly off-panel and had zero epicness or grandiosity to it whatsoever, but it's still the first thing that popped into my head when I thought about the topic. Maybe it's because the outcome of that fight marked the first time in my life I've ever felt genuine disdain for a villain.

Might change my mind later.

My favorite is the Dark Eldar assassin in "The Saint." That was literally the best character ever written in any 40K or HH book IMO. I'm not even a DE player.

If I recall, ADB had mentioned that Codex: Black Legion was the only supplement they had asked for his input on and he basically tore the first version of it to shreds in terms of how it originally portrayed Abaddon and the Black Crusades. He said the two criticisms he found himself repeating were, "That's not a victory! If you're losing THAT many men, that's a defeat!" and "No, a Black Crusade is MUCH bigger than that!"

That was a truly awesome moment, I remember that one vividly.

I like pretty much everything when it comes to 40k, but if I had to choose some favorite moments it would be:

The story of Konrad Curze

Black Templar crusades

Newcron fluff

13th Black Crusade

Actually, anything the Space Sharks do in IA10.

First version (and only true one) of Ollanius Pius last stand.

Kondrad Curze storyline because it didnt paint him as evily evil evilman from Evilville.

And of course legendary words of Macharius - "What I cannot crush with words I will crush with the tanks of Imperial Guard"

And probably many more pieces from WH40K fluff...despite my criticism to GK, Draigo, Horus Heresy books etc I really like it

Most of Ward's stuff, I think he catches the weird and wonderful of the universe quite well.

Oldcrons, because they were interesting then.

Farsight. I don't care for most Tau fluff, it's a little meh, but Farsight... GW wrote an actual character! With depth! And development!
Also in this department, Ahriman (if you take into account A Thousand Sons. Or not.)

Also, Obiwan Sherlock Clousseau.

I particularly like when loyalists realize that their legions have fallen, and are trying to kill them


realizing everything you had even known to be true was now false is a fun read

Eisenhorn and Ravenor books.

Newcron fluff.

Basically all of the Cain Series- managing to get the grim-dark feel right, yet still be upbeat about it. Plus making the enemies threatening, and not cardboard cutouts.

There is also Grey Venger, sneakiest tank in the galaxy.

I also for some reason utterly love Obyron, but I cannot place my finger on why.

I really like Zahndrekh's fluff.

Most of the BT fluff (yes, the new one too!), but in particular Helbrecht and Ludoldus. Ludoldus was High Marshal for over two millennia and picked Grimaldus for his Sword Brethren, I just wish there was more fluff about him.

Regarding Helbrecht, part of the reason I like him is that he doesn't always win, despite being an insanely competent commander. Imotekh took his hand and he lost a load of Marines as a result.

Siege of Vraks right until the space marines show up. Guard doing what guard does: Die horribly until the enemy dies horribly.

That, and Tuska daemon Killa's Waaagh into the warp.
