I finally thought of a reason my tau fell to chaos! Their Ethereal died alone is his room, seeing this as a new opportunity, a lord of change impersonates the dead leader, and by the time the tau realize what happened, many had already fallen to the dark gods. So does anyone else have fluff for their csm/tau army?

Why? Tau souls are very, very uninteresting/unappetizing to chaos.

Well in the Fire Warrior novelization the Tau protagonist was possessed by Khorne for absolutely no logical reason. And this makes slightly more sense and sounds like it could be fun.

I take fluff in broad strokes to be honest, I thought this would make a fun army, so I did it.

Then go with that. You don't need to justify it in the fluff unless you make a big deal out of it.

Tau souls are like cookie crumbs to Chaos. That said, cookie crumbs are still edible, so if you really want to have Chaos Tau, it's not impossible (in fact, the first Tau novel, Fire Warrior, has Khorne using a Tau, as pointed out above). Of course, these would be exceptions to the norm (which the Khorne case was, as well) but still possible, if really really rare.

If you have a Tzeentchian daemon then of course, the manipulation of the Tau forces could be to bring about some long term agenda; the Tau don't have to be the object of the daemon's hunger or plans, just useful tools to achieve its aims. Because, as we all know, Chaos has no interest in Tau at all does it

Well to me in my own idea the ethereals made a deal with tzeench to save their race during their early history. so the strange lights were not the elder but the ethereals making their deal with tzeench. to me this would explain why they have such control over their race. that is to me the way the way the tau would fall to tzeench.

atwhich point the ship would of flown apart because it lacks a gellar field
Tau Enter a space between Realspace and Warp Space when they go FTL,
Their ships have no ability to enter the warp
Again why a Chaos god would go to great length for some cookie crumbs when he can get some Chocolate covered oreos on the next planet over.

Maybe it's not a chaos god but just a daemon that's stuck somewhere in Tau space? There's no cookies to be found, only Tau.
Hmm... Perhaps the Tau encountered a Space Hulk somewhere within their territory? One that has been adrift for millenia and is now filled with horrible things from beyond, as well as chaos-twisted technology of human make from the Dark Age of Technology? The Tau will naturally want to have a look at it all and from there it can go several ways. Either the task force boarding the hulk is trapped aboard when the ancient wreckage warp-jumps again, or they succeed in returning with several pieces of tainted high tech for study that later contaminates their entire base.

He wasn't possessed by Khorne, he just reverted to his naturally Khornate-like (Mon'tau) state when he was no longer under the anti-Khorning effects of an Ethereal and was still forced to fight for his life against overwhelming odds.
Yes, folks - the natural state of the Fire Tau is war.

I know little but you could go this way:
The Tau have seen the power chaos holds from observing chaos servents over time etc. So they are trying their hardest to get noticed by the chaos gods/god of their choice in the hope of getting recognition. Maybe?
So its more like they are deluded wannabes who are chasing a lost cause, but one day, maybe one will be noticed....

Tau Enter a Space between Real space and the warp, they don't use Imperial warp drives or Gellar fields
Tau use a mix of Warp drive and gravitic drive to enter said space. No matter how much power you dump into a warp drive you can never enter the warp without a Psyker.

The Tau, because they lack psykers as a race, are incapable of fully entering the warp. However, based on duplicating the warp drive from an unknown alien vessel they have found a way of 'diving' towards the warp, extending the field of their drive into a wing shape designed to hold their vessel in the warp, before being hurled into real space again like a ball held under water and then released. While this is much slower, by a factor of five when compared to Imperial jump speed, it is a lot safer because they do not enter the warp deep enough to become exposed to any of its dangers, and is also much more predictable as their speed works out to a consistent rate. Nevertheless, this limited form of warp travel has resulted in the Tau Empire being closely packed around their home system.
http://wh40k.lexicanum.com/wiki/Warp_jump
The Webway is the space between the real world and warp, this is now that the Tau are doing. The Tau the skipping across the edge of warp space. Why the tau vessle can't have a accident and fall into the warp in beyond me. I don't see why Tau tec has to be perfect and impossible to fail.

Because I just listed why, If you don't have a Psyker you cannot enter the warp.
The best the Tau could do was make a partial transition, forcing themselves into the void that separated Warp space and real space before they were hurled out again, like a ball held under water then released. Data gathered at great cost during the test flights was studied closely. The Water caste scientists made the observation that the boundary between real space and warp space was not a neat line. It was closer to being a turbulent ocean fomented by the tempestuous warp tides below. By carefully angling their descent toward the Warp and extending the field generated by the gravitic drive into a wing, shaped to hold the vessel down, a Tau vessel could extend the duration of the "dive" considerably. The speeds achieved in the ascent back to real space were staggering and this, coupled with the effect of the Warp on time and space, ensured that the real distance covered by the dive was immense. Early tests lost several drone ships because they inadvertently passed far beyond the sensor range of their recovery vessels. The details were soon resolved.

You do not require a Psyker to enter the Warp. A Warp Drive does that for you just fine. All a Navigator is for is to steer the ship once you're in the Warp, but he/she is not responsible for moving the vessel into the Warp.
