Thought the government's 'don't drink and drive' campaigns have been hard-hitting over the years? Try this video.

Tom Mabe's friend here had already been arrested five times for drink driving. So after passing out once more after a drinking session, his family decided to let Mabe and others teach him a lesson.

They put him in an office mocked up as hospital room - and when he woke up, told him he'd been in a coma for 10 years.

The prank included fake medical staff and even fake TV news reports - and if it wasn't making a serious point it would, of course, just be downright cruel. Check out how it played out above. And remember: don't drink and drive, kids. Hopefully this video will be enough to persuade you of that...

That was my reading too. They had a great chance to make him sweat it, and think more about the consequences of his actions. Instead this is going to be no more than a drinking story of "Remember the time you made me think I was in a coma".

I'm so fething confused. Half the time I'm a conservative, the other half, I'm a democrat. Sometimes I'm even a liberal, which is really weird because that makes for greater than two halves.

I was more going along the lines of why doesn't he have a life time driving ban? So if he steps into a car, even sober, he's breaking the law.

Because such things don't appear to exist here. It can be made financially impossible for him to complete the required steps necessary to retain his license, but I've never heard of a situation where it was completely and legally impossible for him to get a license. Maybe someone else has.

You guys are thinking really small. Lets have a great compromise here:

We put them in prison indefinitely, and then we contract them out to Ford to assemble the Ford Nanny-car for below minimum wage!
