So, who would win? There are three categories:

Commanding Forces- Basically how well they can plan ahead and adapt to the battlefield, and effects of their presence.

Duel- In a 1 on 1 fight with eachother, who comes out alive? No friendly support, combat simulation takes place in a dense jungle (not a Death World jungle, more like a Terran rainforest)

V.S. Oppenent's Adversary- We've pitted them against eachother, but how well do they fare against their competitor's nemesis? How well does Yarrick fare against Heritor Aspodel, a Daemon Prince, and how does Gaunt square up to Ghazskull Thraka?

Gaunt's tiny regiment of light infantry would be utterly crushed by a WAAAGH the size of something Thraka brings.

Yarrick is an old, old man now. Gaunt would own him in a duel.

Gaunt is a flexible, tactical thinker. He reacts to the situations of the battlefield, rather than possessing some "divine sense" of how things are going to happen and thus knowing to put Unit X in Position B in order to prevent Enemy Sneak Attack from happening.

Gaunt also trusts his field commanders to do their jobs and lead troops from the front, rather than trying to direct the whole battle from the rear lines.

So, really, it's a toss-up and is going to depend on the specifics of the battlefield and the battle in question as to who would be the better leader.

I wasn't referring to how well Gaunt's Ghosts can deal with WAAAGH! Thraka, just Gaunt himself.

One dude? Against a whole WAAGH? In that case, either one of them would be killed.

Yarrick also decapitates Warbosses in duels after losing his arm, and has actually survived encounters with Ghaz.

What has Gaunt done to compare?

Like asking which is better? Seal Team Six or 3rd Army World War 2? Not really parallel ways to compare

One of them has a lazer eye and a mechanical claw bigger than his body. I'm betting on him.

Think of something clever to say.

Gaunt isn't a power house 1v1. In any situation that favoured the ghosts fighting style, they'd trash any equivalent sized force of Yarricks. In a straight up fight, they'd get trashed as they're light infantry and always take heavy losses in such situations.

You really want them to work together. *Then* watch the foes of the God-Emperor weep in despair!

Plus the belief of an entire Ork Waaagh that he is invincible and cannot die. And when orks believe something, it tends to be true.

Which evidently can lead to hilarious situations

I vaguely recall him having to be saved from a single Iron Warrior in the first book.

Also, nameless Traitor Marines are as nothing to Ghaz. Or even a Warboss.

Heritor Asphodel is probably similar to a warboss. Gaunt killed him though he also nearly died in the attempt.
Gaunt also killed traitor marines on Gereon but mostly through surprise rather than fighting ability since when he came face to face with one he was nearly killed.

Dunno, Gaunt sometimes has his moments... he once killed a terminator in cc...
Yarrick on the other hand has a laser eye, a power klaw and has the ability to stand back up after he got himself killed dead...

There is a Gaunt mini, are there any rules for him?

And Yarrick has his fortress of arrogance... yeah I think I have to vote in his favor...
