Hey there dakka! I've been doing some creating in an attempted to design a colour scheme for my upcoming Marine project. It will be my first true army build - years ago I bought stuff and painted, but didn't really work towards anything - so I'm excited for it, but not trying to get my hopes up about amazing painting

So here are 5 of my schemes. I've given them some generic names just to identify them between the poll and the images.

Please vote, but also leave comments - whether you hate them all, cant pick or would like to change one, tell me!

I like the green with yellow fists best, but that turquoise is a real close second.

Turquoise.

White with purple frogging is a distant second, but it's too simplistic.

The bottom one looks like they implanted some geneseed into the Joker.

This made me genuinely laugh To be honest it was a quick idea to bring the total to 5 - I'm surprised its gotten more votes than the yellow and orange!

Turquoise followed by green with yellow fists. I think a table full of red green purple would hurt the eyes; which might work to your advantage I guess

That and if someone poured a whole heap of crazy juice into the gene seed pool, and as for what I like it has to be the white one

The green and turquiose schemes look nice. The white one looks a lot like the White Scars.
The yellow/orange one is too colourful. Choose only if you want to name your chapter: 'The Emperor's Citrus Fruits'

The last one is also too colourful, but could work if you replace the green with purple.

One thing to remember is that it will be you* who is painting all of these marines, so go for a colour scheme that you will enjoy painting on your 20th, 50th, 1000th marine...

*Unless you commission someone, in that case make it as complex as possible.

I like the looks of the white the best but some may think your trying to make ite scars.

Following the white, I like the turquoise. It looks more original.

The mixed schemes, they just look like a headache to paint for an entire army and a lil "busy".

The yellow and orange one is awesome. Why? Green marines are dime a dozen and so are blue ones, meh. White isn't exactly exciting either. and the green and red one makes them look like clowns.
the yellow and orange combination is something i haven't seen yet and invokes, at least for me, the idea of fire and flame which might not be a bad thing for a marine chapter.

I'm absolutely loving these comments! hahah

Thanks to everyone who voted and commented. I've left the poll on infinite so votes will keep coming, but I think I've decided on the Turquoise. I really like it, and like others have said it will be me painting them, which does make a difference.

Yellow and orange finally got a vote! Still confused as to how the 'Emperor's Clowns' managed to beat em! haha

Expect to see a blog containing my futile efforts of bringing the turquoise scheme to life in the coming months. Just gotta get some paints! all my Old citadel ones have dried out, so I'll go with the Army Painter.

Green with fists. Simple, powerful contrast, still very militant.

Red green and purple is actually quite cool, but I'm not sure how it would look replicated across a field of Marines.

White is the nicest looking, followed by the green with yellow fists.

The orange and red one looks cool, but good luck painting that (the checkered helm in particular i think would be challenging).

The purple, red and green one looks like an optical illusion, and is fugly as all get out. For the love of all that is holy, don't paint it that scheme.

Edit: Dammit, on the first run through the turquoise one didn't load. NOw that i look at it, that's actually my favorite of the bunch.

I think you need to learn a thing or two about color theory. Red Green and Purple is a heinous scheme full of colors that don't look good together at all. Red Yellow and Orange all ends up muddying up and looking too samey.Green and yellow can look good, but I would use the yellow as a trim accent instead of painting the hands and ends of backpack with them. Yellow helmets would actually look good in that scheme. Turquoise looks okay I guess, white looks pretty good.

I'd like to make it clear that I am in no way learned in the art of.. art. :p I just put a few colours together through what felt ok and these were the result. I'm pretty happy with how they turned out though.

Though I can appreciate what you are saying.

Also everyone - I never seriously liked the purple green and red one :p I just chucked them together and thought "well, 5 is better than 4."

I like the white one the best. The turquoise might come out on top if you used a different color than the white on it.
The yellow and orange looks a bit like the Howling Griffons, but not as defined

I quite like the first, however I would swap out the hand colour, simply by virtue that the Imperial Fists are all about the Yellow Fist business. Possibly a Blue, as an alternative?

I'd begrudgingly say turquoise. White would be the better one if it weren't for the purple filigree.

The green and yellow, meanwhile, lacks contrast, while the second and last ones look like there was an accident at the Skittles factory.

The turquoise would look really sharp if you took the time to apply smooth layers and carefully highlight the white.

I vote turquoise it is a simple but good look. The second and the last schemes just have too much going on for me. I like simpler looks.

I'd like to do this, but I am a noob at painting, so would have no idea how to do this. I need to get new paints because the paints I had when I was a lot younger have gone really horrible, so I'll order some army painter stuff over the next few weeks.

How would I go about selecting different paints to build up in layers? Would I go from say dark to light in thin watered down layers?
