You're right about Zakariel in your comments. Without some sort of ability like Hit and Run, or some other way to break out of combat, hard 3++ units like that can really shut you down.

Used to be you couldn't lock gargantuans in combat except with other super heavy walkers or gargantuans. The downside was you couldn't keep them from getting shot all up.

Just a tip here. If you want to drive up traffic to your threads and, consequently, to your blog, you might want to consider putting more of a teaser for your batreps. At the minimum, I'd include the lists here. Perhaps a couple of pics or perhaps a premise/narrative for your battle. Then at the bottom, you can say something like, "For the full battle report, go to ..........."

ATC 2013 - Team Fluffy Bunnies - 1st .....LVO GT 2014 Team Tournament - Best Generals

Eye of Terror

You can't take Deathwing or Ravenwing as troops when they are in the allied detachment.

I remember those days as well. I have a gargantuan squiggoth that just collects dust because it was never safe from anything, anytime in any game. It just had a 4+ regular armor save or something like that. It seems like GW can't really figure out how to make a single monster unit balanced in the right way.

Cool game, thanks for the report. The big daemon seemed fun to use.

Big daemons are indeed fun - I played an 1850 game with Aetaos’rau’keres. He was grounded by wave sepents but still was not kiled that turn and he kept pooping out troops. A grimoired GFMC is so nasty at that laevel. But yes - you can bog them down even with crappy troops for a few turns for sure. I like the big A because he will make troops when needed and you can keep flying your DPs on and off the table. I used him, Fatey, and a Tzeentch DP and only two min troops ...

So the same problems you encountered. Although they are tough they can be dealt with by a number of different units in a standard list - there are no auto wins by including an expensive LoW in your list. Still - very entertaining report.

How did Eldar tie him up? You could stomp all over most stuff in that army.

Yes you can stomp over a lot of stuff. But he also had a seer council which held me for a few turns and did some wounds. Still, rolling Biomancy on this guy is a bit crazy. Iron Arm is sick, Endurance at least grants IWND a bit meh) and Life Leech ... well. The only other problem I had was watching my spacing from the other DPs. Thankfully Dark Jealously is 18" and Grimoire is 24". And being able to leave the table and return with my FMCs certainly did not hurt me. Fatey lasted all game.

I played this list, btw, Kevin ... as you can see it is not even 1850, lol. Not that it mattered.

Lord of Fate: Aetaos’rau’keres, Greater Daemon of Tzeentch
HQ: Kairos Fateweaver
Troops: 11 Plaguebearers of Nurgle
Troops: 10 Plaguebearers of Nurgle
Heavy Support: Daemon Prince of Tzeentch, Demonic Flight, Warp-forged Armour, Grimoire, Greater Reward, Lvl 3

So it really did boil down to the powers I rolled and how well I threw the dice, lol and how well my opponent rolled. Thankfully the big guy has built in riftbringer with an icon so ... And although tough you can ground a GFMC with enough fire. Is a GFMC woth it? Well he sure does cost a lot of points but he is near indestructible and troop creator ... pumping out horrors on command is just not fair. At 2000 I would take him, Fatey and Belakor. But it is a bit cheesy. And as for your game ... it looked like a lot of fun. I don't know if I'll play the GFMC again ... I might but he did seem a bit OP at that level for sure. At least in your game it was super heavy vs. super heavy.
