So in terms of which Gods are alive:
C'Tan - Most are dead. Some of the Gods' essences are stored away for use, they are only a fragment. Then you have a very few live C'Tan that has been trapped in necrodermis (that superheavy vehicle that GW released that has the transcendent C'Tan)
Chaos - All four (possibly 5) are alive and kicking: Khorne, Nurgle, Slaanesh, Tzeentch, (and the God of disorder that I can't remember the name of). They are so strong that warp portals are too small/weak to let them through to the material realm so they are essentially stuck in the warp.
Eldar - Only three Gods are alive: Khaine, Isha, and Cegorach. Khaine battled Slaanesh whom ate most of the Eldar Gods and lost. However, Slaanesh was too weak to completely kill/devour Khaine so he/she/it split Khaine into a million pieces. Each piece eventually ended up in a Craftworld/Maiden World where Eldar sacrifice an exarch to awaken the shard. Isha was able to be devoured by Slaanesh but Nurgle came and rescued her. Now she is Nurgle's prisoner and is forced to drink his poison to test the potency of his concoctions (Isha is the goddess of fertility and her power is healing). Cegorach escaped from Slaanesh during the fiasco and is now hiding in the webway. He is the only god to not be captured or injured. Ynnead is the God of the dead. Every Eldar should is suppose to contribute to his birth. He will fully awaken when every last Eldar has died. Supposedly, when Ynnead awakens he will have enough strength to kill Slaanesh.
Humans - God Emperor of Mankind. While technically not a God, he is worshipped as such due to the Ecclesiarchy. He has been on life support for the last 10,000 years in a catatonic state on Terra if you consider that "alive." Automatically Appended Next Post: OH and I don't know enough about Gork and Mork to answer that one. Tau have no concept of the Warp so the don't have any gods.

Gork and Mork are still kicking.
The four chaos powers are still around. Malal was written out as the IP for him belonged to someone who left GW.
The Eldar deity Khaine was split into a zillion Avatars.
Isha is still alive, imprisoned by Nurgle.
Cegorach the Laughing God is still out there.
Empy isn't a god, just godlike in power.
C'Tan are all shattered in modern fluff. Old fluff was cooler. Godlike beings when whole.

Actually, with all the worship going on, and according to older fluff, the Emperor is a god, his soul is dormant in the warp, fighting daemons and such, waiting to be reborn as a true god.

Actually C'tan aren't/weren't gods at all. They were named 'Star Gods' because of their immense power. In fact they were a species of xenos that came to existence when the universe was very young and the laws of physics weren't fully established.

Neither is Chaos. We refer to them as gods and deities due to their immense power and ability to quash normal lifeforms like ants. As per how the term is usually applied. A deity is 'merely' an immensely powerful form of life worshiped by some weaker creatures or referred to as gods to describe their level of power.

I disagree. In the context of 40K, and particularly this question ( op just doesn't know better), "gods and daemons" are gestalt entities born of a particular species' psychic imprint on the Warp, who rule the "afterlife". C'Tan were basically hyper-voracious space predators, and given that they were physically shattered and turned into toasters and such by the Necrons, they were no more gods than the Old Ones, despite the latter's godlike technology (and the fact that they are technically the grandfathers of the gods). You can't shoot the self-aware embodiments of a species' darkest urges with lasers.
By the way, is anyone else super proud of us? The various aliens of the galaxy managed to create Greek/Norse mythology-style larger-than-life personalities, while humanity spawns several varieties of boiling cauldrons of evil. Primordial Annihilator in the house, bitches! Let the galaxy burn!

It's hard to really judge what gods like Gork and Mork can do (considering Ork fluff isn't really expanded on much and they might just be a relic from 2nd edition when WFB and 40k were similar)..
When something like 90% of the books written are about the imperium and the Emperor you tend to get A LOT more information on one side and almost none about any other races.

Also given that Gork and Mork are already divine powerhouses they're already set in the warp doing their own thing krumpin' things and the WAAAGH!'s the Orks do are looked upon fondly by them and frankly there's really no reason for them to directly intervene given that an Ork knows what to do already and unlike humans/other xenos are rarely lead astray from their core Orky principles so whatever they do empowers them anyway with their Orkiness.
Don't forget that in reflection for an Ork's need to fight, Gork and Mork don't necessarily want to completely wipe out the competition because they would enjoy a variety of good well-fought fights just like the Orks. Remember they're xenos gods, not motivated by any mere human motivations of lust, greed or hatred. So while for us we'd think that complete domination would be the best choice if you're so powerful for them that isn't necessarily a priority.

The strength of Gork and Mork is entirely based on the idea that the more followers you have, the stronger you are. As Orks are the most numberious species in the entire universe, that right there is all the strength they need. Also, its always Gork and Mork. Never Gork or Mork for the Orks. Which means unlike the four chaos gods, all orks give the two of them equal power. The Ork race isn't dividing up its power of faith.
And as others have said, Gork and Mork probably don't actually come down too hard on the other gods, if only to keep them around to be bullied once again tomorrow. Its more fun that way... and in truth, is a very Orky thing to do.

Hrmmm... I thought orks could prefer one of the two gods? Anyways, people ran by who is still alive. Personally, i still think the chaos gods are stronger but solely because they are just such carnal basic emotions pretty much everything feeds them. Humans? Bingo. Eldar? Bingo. Every sub xenos race? Bingo. At first, it seems like orks have the most. But then you add the imperium+Eldar+Dark Eldar+minor crumbs from tau+xenos races+etc+etc+possibly some of the ork emotions flushing into the vat that is the warp even if in broken bits and you get a mighty stew of chaos. Although they are stronger in my head, that doesn't mean they want to fight gork and mork. Either of them could fight them for a bloody long time and since they are often together would overwhelm them fighting together and any added foes would be a pain as they already have enough troubles with their great game of 4.

Except not everything feeds chaos. You can be vain and a perfectionist and not give a shred of power to Slannesh. You could be cruel and brutal and Khorne will never receive a skull.
I'd hazard that none of the killing done in DE arenas feed Khorne. You usually have to work in the name of a god in order for that god to receive its due. If an Eldar kills a guardsmen and says thanks to his own god, that god will be the only one to get the trophy.
If it was possible for a god to just sit back and slurp power due to the random actions of people simply because that action fit somewhere into their domains, they really wouldn't have to campaign for your allegiance in the first place and that would rather defeat the whole point.

Meh. I've always thought that by diverting your worship to another or not worshipping that one individual in particular the amount isn't as great. It's still something but not too much. The thing is, the warp gods are an amalgamation not of worshipping but instead were formed from hopes, dreams, desires, and stuff. They manifested to mirror thee real world. The gods are so cruel because the real realm is cruel. If the real realm became overall positive then so too would they and vice versa. That is what the warp means to me and if the gods are formed by such emotions (especially as they were formed without an individual rally worshiping THEM in particular) it seems quite likely that worshipping another decreases the dosage and worshipping them themself makes it greater.
Chaos itself isn't really that much of a sentient entity. They have a specific focus. That elements in all of its kinds. Tzeentch is change. All change, trickery, hopes, ambitions, dreams, the warp, and psykers for there is nothing that represents change more than a mortal that shapes two realms at once etc etc. They feed off of all souls and emotions and are bent on surviving and growing. They seek out warriors and individuals that provide the most sensation. A noble of much might, strength, and decadence will often fall to one of the gods mainly because of how much they provide then dragging their souls to it in some twisted way. Khorne as a nenteity created the end of an ork waagh into the eye of terror be a daemon planet where every day orks are revived from death to fight daemons over and over and over not because of some great plan but because well it is what khorne is

Devastating Dark Reaper

Oh there are many people wandering in the warp, Russ for example, the entire fire hawks chapter. However off the top of my head I think it was that the new daemon codex still states emphatically that no grey knight has ever fallen to chaos. Although a short story about the changeling does say the seed may have been sown for the first.

Insect-Infested Nurgle Chaos Lord

*shrug*
Fair enough. It does say 'in all the chapter's long history no GK has ever fallen to chaos'. Given the way time flows in the warp, and the fact that they don't know about it happening to add it to the histories, it could still be him though It's all good.
Russ might be. Or he could be a chaos spawn/dead no-one has seen him since he entered.
The Fire Hawks became the LOTD. They are still about, true enough, but no-one knows where they are at when they aren't Deus Ex Machina-ing for the IOM. I'd love to have a bit more fluff on these guys.
Tuska's still in there, at Khorne's whim, so i suppose anything's possible.
This is 40K fluff after all: contradictory, insane and alternately awesome and awful
