I try to stay out of Off Topic forums, but I had to laugh reading this review of 47 Ronin.

http://www.film.com/movies/47-ronin-review

I mean, if the trailers hadn't convinced you it was going to be awful, well...

Marneus Calgar is referred to as "one of the Imperium's greatest tacticians" and he treats the Codex like it's the War Bible. If the Codex is garbage, then how bad is everyone else?

There is nothing about that trailer that made me want to see it, and that review doesn't help

I wish I had time for all the game systems I own, let alone want to own...

I think it looks great, and I cannot wait to see it.

Now, remember this when I return to this thread in a few weeks to say how bad it was and how I should have listened to you guys.

I'm looking forward to it, but I'm not expecting much other than some cool visuals and cinematography.

I'm with you.

The trailers gave the vibe of one of those 80's movies that are terrible in every way except for the fact that they're awesome. If this hits in the Mortal Kombat/Golden Child/Krull zone, I'm going to be one happy camper. My wife and I both agreed that we wanted to see this movie "for the monsters".

The reviewer sounds like his main problem is that he was expecting the movie to stick to the source material. Maybe he would have liked it better if the title were changed to Ronin Academy Bloodsport: Gaijin Vengeance or something?

On year right after my birthday, my aunt took me to see The Golden Child. I was 10; and I thought that flying demon thing was the best thing I had ever seen.

High five! I used to bug my parents asking if we could rent this movie when we went on vacation--none of the local rental places ever carried it. Also, the Harryhausen Sinbad movies. Sometimes I still walk into the kitchen looking for snacks like a Harryhausen Cyclops...

Yeah, I think 47 Ronin's got a leg up on poor Sardo Numspa.

Well my opinion of the person writing the article went way down with this note:

"*Morgan is one of two credited writers, and “Tokyo Drift” is awesome."

Tokyo Drift an awesome movie? Please....

I want to see this movie, not because of the relation to Japan or all this stuff the author is going on about, but because it looks like a decent terrible action flick like they used to make when I was younger. I wouldn't walk into a theater playing this and think: "Huh, 47 Ronin, sounds like a good look at Japan's customs and caste system."

Maybe it will be a good look at Japan's customs and caste system turning into awesome monsters. We can all hope.

The book is pretty piss poor as well, even though it seems to bear no resemblance to the film.

So not the Tsunami then? Perhaps Hiroshima and Nagasaki are 3rd and 4th? MrDwhitey is correct, wrong century indeeed.

As someone who has no interest in the source material it looks like a mindless action movie with some monsters in it. What's not to love?

What's really amusing is that the production budget was rumored to have gone through the roof and that the director (who's apparently a rookie) ended up spending potentially just over $200,000,000 to make this movie!

It will be interesting to see which movie is the bigger financial facepalm; this or Disney's The Lone Ranger which didn't even gross back half of its production budget.

Runnin up on ya.

My wife's Japanese and has said that she is going to drag me kicking and screaming to this abortion of a movie. If I have to sit through this thing, I sincerely hope/wish/pray/beg that Keanu Reeves gets some nameless disease and his nose falls off of his face.

Hey look, it's an Asian movie with a random white guy in it in a time when white people weren't allowed to run around Japan. Way to kill an actual, honest to god, historical story Hollywood.

It's Hollywood taking one of the most well-known, highly regarded stories in Japanese culture and turning it into a circus.

Early? You're late. I'm on my second container and just finished the rum.

I think that's supposed to be tongue in cheek, lol. As in what the studio said when it hired him to write the script.

It's the only way I can wrap gifts. So what if some of them wind up looking like this:

The novelization by Joan Vinge? Or one of the translations of the original folk tale?

I love the reception this is getting in Japan. They should totally make an anime titled The Last Temptation of Christ only to fill it with giant robots and school girls. Fair's fair.

To be fair, that would probably be a better film.

It's an action movie. A turd by any other name, really.

Hey Universal, if you're throwing money at newbies I've got a movie that would cost a lot less than $200,000,000 to make, and would probably be more popular than this.
