Hullo! Question is pretty much in the title =)

According to the Orcs & Goblins army book, Night Goblins are adept at subterranean living underneath the World's Edge Mountains, especially old Dwarf strongholds like Karak Eight Peaks.

But that does lead me to a couple of problems, firstly, how on earth would you go about basing subterranean? And even if I did decide to go above ground, I can't seem to find picture or description of what the landscape of the World's Edge Mountains is actually like. Is it bleak and Mordor-ish? Snow Covered? What are the are the lower regions like? A wasteland, a jungle? Does it vary from North to South? etc etc.

Are there any pictures or descriptions of their architecture at all? I'm assuming it's much the same as the rest of Orc and Goblin buildings, just ramshackle huts and barricades etc made out of whatever they can find laying about? It's just so hard to find any real references!

I've been looking at the fantastic Element Games bases (I hope I'm allowed to post links here, if not please take this down! http://elementgames.co.uk/paints-hobby-and-scenery/bases-for-miniatures/square-bases-for-miniatures) and I'm supposing the Dwarf Ruins set looks the most apt for a Night Goblins army lore-wise. But if anyone has any more information, lore, or anything that might help me out or contradict what I've read, it would be hugely appreciated = )

Thank you for your time!

You should probably take inspiration from real mountain ranges, the World's Edge are easily as large as the Alps/Rockies/Himalayas - that far up there is very little growing in terms of flora, so you'd probably just need bare rocks (use relatively large bits of gravel) and snow.

With regard to subterranean basing, the Night Gobbos are inhabiting old dwarf tunnels and tunnelling their own way through rock so I'd probably make the bases look dusty/rubble-strewn, probably with black edging. Grey edging tends to look a bit too 'indoors' or '40k'.

Those bases look nice, but bear in mind pricing when you've got to do a unit of 40+ Gobbos!
Hope that helps!

The night goblin stronghold that was in warhammer online was an excellent source. Looked pretty much what I pictured it would. See if you can find a youtube vid.

warhammer 40k mmo. If I can drive an ork trukk into the back of a space marine dread and explode in a fireball of epic, I can die happy!

Thank you grantosjones, I feel a bit silly not having looked at real mountain ranges beforehand, but now I've been checking out pictures they're a lot more helpful than I first thought. It's also good hearing from somebody else what I was thinking about already - dusty/rubblestrewn and bare rocks sounds quite right for Night Goblins = )

Orock, thank you for the reply! But sadly I never got around to playing Warhammer online (you mean Age of Reckoning, right?) I've been digging around a bit trying to see what you meant, the only Night Goblin 'thing' I've managed to find is 'Gunbad' (http://www.warhammeronline.com/Gunbad_Overview) - is that maybe what you meant? I gotta say it does look darn good

Giant mushrooms are perfect for night goblins, mountains are too mainstream

As far as basing these go, GW produces a very nice 'Under Empire' baking kit. It is pretty expensive for a box of medium and small rock shards, and a bunch of resin stuff and crystals, but the box is a perfect solution for being able to base under-earth models. It has mushrooms, crystals, nocturnal gribblies like spiders and snakes and such.

Aah PrehistoricUFO thank you! I see what you mean about the pricing, it does look a little sparse, looking at the screenshots. Although the mushrooms and little stalagmites ( or is it stalactites >.< ) do look amazing. I think I'll have to fork out for at least one of the kits = ) thank you!

If you like crazy mushroom scenery you can't go wrong with looking at some of the stuff from Morrowind, too.

Chute82, I've been looking for those specific mushrooms for aaaages! Same with the tree stumps there - can't thank you enough for that link!

grantosjones, Morrowind is something I'd never thought of either! I was a huuuge Morrowind fan *goes to look at screenshots.*..... Telvanni ftw > . >

Huey11.. Tights come down.. must... remember... ^^

I am definitely going for the whole 'dwarven ruins and mushrooms' feel. I'll post a little diorama when it's all finished, although at the moment I'm practicing painting skills on zombies xD so it may be a wee while. But thank y'all for the advice! has really helped!
