So there was a thread like this in the 40k discussion and a quick search didn't show anything for Fantasy.
I was wondering what are the worst/useless units in your codex/armybook?
For me I play Skaven and I would have to say:
Rat Ogres - no armour saves, stupidity when the packmaster dies and expensive per model.
Most of the named lords - just over priced basically (I kind of want to use the vermin lord because he is good but 500 points is a big sink)
Night Runners - just a meh unit
Doomflayer - 1 wound in combat sucks

I don't have a Codex, I have an Army Book
Mine would be the following though, Special Characters (many of whom are rubbish) aside:
DE - Fleetmaster - Overcosted, rubbish, vastly inferior to every other Lord choice
HE - Seaguard - Too expensive for what they bring and inferior to all other core choices
VC - Corpse Cart - Does have its uses, but M4 chariot is not good.

This kind of thread is the only place that a Jabberslythe has a shot at the gold.
Lets take a monster with 5's in all the stats that matter. Give it the ability to force Ld tests against enemy units within 12" or take the difference in wounds. (Just 2D6, Inspiring Presence and BSB are good too). Lets give it a single-shot tongue attack, and finally allow it to 'leak' wounds onto the people hurting it from acid blood.
So kind of a gimpy Hydra that trades attacks, armour, regen and breath weaponry, in exchange for Flight, an irrelevant aura and an attack that only works when the beast is dying. So how much is this beasty worth?
Did you guess nearly 300 points?! Because that's what it rolls at.
Truly an awful beasty. There is a reason that no Beastman player ever spends their Rare allowance.

For the Ogres I think it's got to be Bragg or Greasus.
Some of the other units like Yetis or the Hunter are very situational and will probably loose out to other choices in the same slot but Bragg and Greasus are just two big wasted opportunities really.
Bragg gets better in challenges and has a good background and potential for a character hunter but the sort of things he would be best off challenging can quite easily avoid the challenges or potentially kill him before he gets to swing.
Greasus is the (kind of) leader of a race who pretty much rule by stength and leadership challenges are very lethal so how come any regular tyrant from the same points Greasus comes in at can best him in a fight. Plus he is slowers than a regular Tyrant and has to be stuck on the side of units due his wierd base size so it's much easier for him to take a cannon ball to the face too.

For DoC:
Army wide rules:
- General & BSB only giving their bonuses to other unit's of their own God. So 75% of your possible choices get to enjoy Ld7 or worse for the most part.
- Reign of Comedy table never fails to ruin a game.
Magic Lore:
- Lore of Tzeentch. Compared to what Nurgle & Slaanesh get, Tzeentch magic is a joke. Add in the awful Warpflame rule and then pair it alongside a BRB lore that has almost 0 synergy with it for added crappiness.
The God of freaking magic has without a doubt the very worst Magic phase in the entire book!
Lords:
- Daemon Prince is laughable. Even taking 2 MoN ones is well below what a Greater will bring.
Heroes:
- Khorne & Slaanesh Heralds. Combat fighters who can't actively access any kind of reliable protection are useless. Add in insanely over-costed Locii abilities to the Khorne Herald and you've got the game's weakest Heroes.
Core:
- Bloodletters. Anything they can do, Daemonettes will do about 10x better and for much cheaper too.
Special:
- Flamers. Worst unit in the entire game! Even a full unit has trouble removing 5 basic T3 Fast Cav models in a single shooting phase, and they fold as easily as Furies in combat due to the unit cap of 6 combined with only a handful of WS2 attacks.
Not to mention a full unit w/Pyrocaster is wasting 250pts that could have been spent on something useful!
Rare:
- Hellflayer. For 5pts more, you get a Skullcannon! Plus you're competing for points alongside Plaguedrones, Soul Grinder & Burny Chariot. Hell, even the insanely over-costed Exalted Seeker Chariot is a better buy than this pile of b***crap!
T4/W4 with a 6+/5++ is a joke.

For the Armies I play: DE, HE, DoC.
DE: Character is the Fleetmaster and the unit is witches. The fleetmaster is pointless in every aspect, and witches are a combat unit that don't want to be in combat. As without the shadow buffs, they rely on killing their opponents before they get to strike back. And anything witches can kill, darkshards do it better. Because they can't get hit back.
HE: Character is the sea helm, and unit is the flamespyre. The Sea helm is a model with a special rule that will rarely come into play, and is worse than a noble and more expensive. The flamespyre competes with the frostheart for the rare points. Need I say more?
DoC: Character wise, I have to say a Khorne Herald. Unit wise, I have to say Bloodcrushers. Yes, he's insanely good at hitting people. But he can't be protected and he needs the hatred locus to do anything. As for bloodcrushers, I don't see the point. They're so expensive and add so little to the book. And they compete for the special choice with stuff like Beasts, Fiends, Furies and Seekers.

This is pointless if you're just going to name half the book. It becomes another whine fest. Name a single unit. If GW tapped you to take out one unit and it would be replaced with Something Better, what would you choose. Characters are probably lousy choices for that reason.
-O&G, kind of too easy, but Snotlings
-WoC, Chaos Spawn. Hard to choose because they are still okay. But it's a Rare, swap it for something better.
-VC, Bat Swarms. This will probably be a trend. And is maybe a good indication that whatever swarms were in prior editions, they aren't any longer.

Thus, After having thus successively taken each member of the community in its powerful grasp and fashioned him at will, the supreme power then extends its arm over the whole community. It covers the surface of society with a network of small complicated rules, minute and uniform, through which the most original minds and the most energetic characters cannot penetrate, to rise above the crowd. The will of man is not shattered, but softened, bent, and guided; men are seldom forced by it to act, but they are constantly restrained from acting. Such a power does not destroy, but it prevents existence; it does not tyrannize, but it compresses, enervates, extinguishes, and stupefies a people, till each nation is reduced to nothing better than a flock of timid and industrious animals, of which the government is the shepherd

Actually you can go through almost every book and find at least 1 true stinker per section that you will almost never see, even in purely 'for fun' games.
Usually the Lords/Heroes worst options are limited to special characters, though occasionally you get options like the new DE characters or the Empire Witch Hunter.
But once you get to the Core/Special/Rare section, it's pretty obvious that there's almost always that one choice per slot that is substandard or just pure garbage and lags well behind the other options.

Not at all.
People overreact. They assume because they don't like something or it's not as good as it was, it's terrible for everyone always across the entire fuxing planet in every situation.
Which is of course nonsense. Most everything posted so far can be used in builds and used well. SCs don't count. You know you're paying a premium for basically fluff--and it should be that way. Last edition there were 5 million Teclises running around. Which is absurd.

Bretonnians for me and our worst model is the king. It's so great to have a model I can't even use in a 2500 point game because he's more than 25% of my army. Not to mention he is subpar at best. Honestly other than that bretonnians have a pretty solid use for every unit in our book

For Lizards: Troglodon-He is not impossible to use but hes never going to be worth it.
For High Elves- Seaguard they just aren't worth it when compared with helms, reavers, archers and even spearmen..
For Skaven-nightrunners-Why just why and the models suck.

I hate the Slaughterbrute. It sounds like it should be so awesome... but... guh. I WANT it to be good, but its piddly number of attacks don't take advantage of its neat mechanic, and it's squishy to boot. Of course, I wouldn't change much in the WoC book as it's a pretty awesome book anyway, but if I had to pick...

Tomb Kings- Ushabti with GW. too slow and too many points for the amount you have to take to make them useful.
-Skeleton Horsemen. Chariots do their job much better and compared to the horse archers, there is no real point in taking them.
I haven't played any games with the new DE book yet so I can't really comment on it. Fleetmaster does look pretty stinky though.

IMO the worst unit in my book (Ogre Kingdoms) would be the Yhetees.
Apart from their magic attacks which are only really useful against vampire counts, there is nothing that another unit could not do better.
Flammable, no armour save, no impact hits and really crappy models seal the deal for me.

A) The Jabberslythe in my army is often my MVP. While he might be overcosted by 25-50 pts, he's not the worst unit in the codex and provides a fast monsterous threat.
B) The worst units in the Beastmen book are most of their Special Characters. For the most part you can create any of the lords with better protection, better attacking power, and better stats for 50-100 points less than any of the specials. None of their special rules really add much to make them worth the extra cost.

TK: Ushabti.
Last edition they were around the same cost but I3 and had a base STR of 6. This edition they removed the base s6, gave them the option for GW or EHW, and they cost 50 pts each and come with a 5+ armor save and cap at 1 wound healed to the whole unit per turn from our lore attribute.
Compare that to a 40 pt Crypt Ghoul with +1 T, Poison, and Regeneration.
Compare it to a Maneater and cry.

I just don't honestly see a point for Empire's Templar Grandmaster. Giving ItP to Knights (you can't even do it for Reiksguard cause you have to buy their SC) is not as necessary as it was back in 6th/7th. Captains/Generals give better support with HtL. More combat effectiveness from characters doesn't seem as necessary anymore as well and a Captain and a Warrior Priest can do about everything you need for about the same points total. The ONE thing they could have given this guy to make him stand out from the rest would have been to have him mounted on a Demigryph and ride with his brothers but NOPE couldn't even get that.
