Subject: What is the best superheavy without acsess to D weapons?
|

Stalwart Veteran Guard Sergeant

Hello Dakka and not to derail my other thread I would like to ask this question. The superheavys which this question asks about are the ones that do NOT have D weapons and are gerally fitting to normal games.
I am not asking this question to use just cheesy rules but because most of these small superheavys are non eficent and I would like that the superheavy that I am getting is atleast decent.
Please explain why you recommend each unit.
Thanks for your answers.

There can be no doubt about that.

There's been some good stuff said about the CRASSUS ARMOURED ASSAULT TRANSPORT, but, really, the basic Imperial Guard Baneblade really is pretty solid.
A shade under 600pts gets you a 10" AP2 blast with great range, a demolisher cannon, two lascannons, three twin linked heavy bolters, and an autocannon, that can all target different things. Great stuff. Not astoundingly good like Screamerstar, but solid for the investment.

Although that would be extremely manly and with lascannon sponson could form a efficent multipurpose vehicle I would also like to know your opinions on using some vehicles with more firepower.

First of all, most super heavies are not very points effecient (with a few exceptions).
If you are going imperial (sounds like it?);
I would say the baneblade, as this thing has tons of weapons, is mostly durable, and a ton of fun to play on the table.
Of course, you could just get a titan, and NOT run the D-weapons. They are still very good.

Stormhammer, definitely.
It's like a Baneblade. Except it has a twin-linked Baneblade Cannon.
Then it decided that wasn't enough firepower, so it decided it needed a second turret, also mounted with a twin-linked Baneblade Cannon.

The Doomhammer is sorta great with its S10 AP2 ignores cover cannon.

Doomhammers don't ignore cover. You're thinking of either the Hellhammer or the Stormsword, both of which do have S10 AP1 cover-ignoring primary weapons. I favor the Stormsword since it's cheaper and it has an Apocalyptic Blast as opposed to the Hellhammer's Massive blast. I don't think the demo cannon and AC are worth the tradeoff.

You're right, I am thinking of the Stormsword.

I've played a couple of games now with my new Tesseract Vault, without using the D weapons. I'm in love with the Seismic Assault; 6D6 Str8 AP3 shots is nearly guaranteed to make something GONE each turn. I've also tried the Sky of Falling Stars, but I find the apocalyptic barrage a little too random for my tastes. Last game, I took the Str9 AP2 apocalyptic blast. It's like a lascannon bomb!

S10 Ap1 7" blast, ignores cover. If you move, 24" range, if you dont, 48" range.
Not bad. It's almost as good as an IG Stormsword, which costs only a few more points for a 10" blast and has much better durability.

Thank you for your input, and yes I am playing IG so the suggestions were for the correct army. It however seems that the discussion revolves around the Baneblade variants and I already own the hellhammer. I would like to hear is the hellhammer any good (which I think it is), but I would also like to know which tank would go along with it nicely to try different play styles. Oh yes and for the tanks I definitely would prefer somethin max400 points because I plan to use it in games with 1500-2000 points.
